No area has been reshaped more over the preseason than the defensive backfield - from Asante Samuel staying away from camp, to CB Chad Scott's season-ending knee injury on the first day of camp, to first-round pick Brandon Meriweather beginning at CB before playing more safety, to Rodney Harrison's 4-game suspension for violating the NFL's policy on banned substances. And that's not to mention starting safety Eugene Wilson appeared to pull up in an Aug. 24 exhibition game and Rashad Baker has a broken hand and might not be ready for two more weeks. Two constants have been starting CBs Ellis Hobbs and Randall Gay, but with Samuel's return, Gay will be pushed on the left side. James Sanders is the likely candidate to fill in for Harrison (pictured). If Wilson's not ready, Meriweather figures to get the starting nod.
