Nomar Garciaparra

In Feb. 2001, Garciaparra, coming off back-to-back batting titles, appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated shirtless under the headline "A Cut Above." A week later, Garciaparra was another victim of the supposed SI jinx, arriving at spring training with a split longitudinal tendon in his right wrist. He was limited to 21 games that season, and while he bounced back in '02, batting .310 with 24 homers, he was never quite the same dynamic hitter again.
