The Red Sox designated hitter suffered an Achilles tendon injury in July of 2012 and, after a brief return, missed the rest of the season with the injury. Ortiz was off to a great start to the year, hitting 23 home runs in 90 games before getting hurt. The Red Sox re-signed him to a two-year contract in the offseason in the hopes that Ortiz returns to his pre-injury numbers in 2013.
