Bryce Florie Red Sox reliever Bryce Florie was hit in the face with a line drive off the bat of the Yankees' Ryan Thompson on Sept. 8, 2000. Florie suffered a fractured cheekbone and other injuries, but returned to the mound in 2001. He pitched in 7 games for the Red Sox that season and was later released.
