Significant injuries in Boston sports history
The Bruins center was leveled at mid-ice by the Penguins' Matt Cooke on March 7, 2010, and suffered a serious concussion that kept him out of action until the playoffs. He returned and finished out the year, but experienced post-concussion syndrome symptoms over the summer and fall that prevented him from playing until December.
On Jan. 22, he suffered another concussion, this one termed "moderate" when he was checked into the boards at Colorado. He is expected to miss the rest of the 2010-11 season, and questions about his future in hockey remain unanswered.
