1994 NHL Lockout The lockout shortened the 1994-95 season to 48 games. The league lost 468 games overall, including the All-Star Game, to the work stoppage, which ended on Jan. 11, 1995. As a result of the lockout, NHL regular seasons were shortened from 84 to 82 games. In addition, a salary cap for rookies was instituted. The Stanley Cup playoffs were still held.
