Media day mayhem
Today was media day at Reliant Stadium in Houston, where the players and coaches fielded countless questions about pretty much everything hurled at them from countless reporters and other media types. Here is a sampling of some of the oddball questions hurled at the players and coaches in our mock media day event with the questions provided by the wacky fans of the Patriots and Boston.com.
Rob from Swampscott asked Coach Belichick, "If the part in your hair were like a river, which river would it be?"
There was a followup for Mr. Belichick from Sarah in Dorchester who asked, "How much wood could a Belichick chuck if a Belichick could chuck wood?"
The attention then turned to Super Bowl XXXVI hero, Adam Vinatieri. Michael from Milton was first to be recognized and asked, "Adam, have you ever accidentally kicked Walters through the uprights?"
After Paul from Allston got in a quick question for Matt Light, "Matt, where, and don't make me ask this question twice, is Waldo?" The attention then turned back to coach Belichick for the remainder of the session.
Andrew from Mexico City threw him for a loop with this drawn out question, "Coach, if and when a Super Bowl title is forthcoming, on the assumption that winning the game is what it is all about, and given that one team has to win and the other to lose, not that anyone has a crystal ball or any such thing--to paraphrase Pete Rose; we are not built that way--does the winning team, per se, vis a vis the losing team, have the prerogative of so called 'bragging rights,' as if to say, 'We are better than you,' at least on this given day when the coin toss went into the air and landed presumably heads or tails and both sides enjoyed an even chance, playing on a level field? Please answer yes or no."
As Bill pondered Andrew's question, Lin from Boston offered a quick helping hand. "Coach, you have a little something...May I offer you a tissue?"
There were a lot of great questions in today's batch of entries and it was tough to pick a winner. But we had to, so we went with Tom from Woburn who stood up and had the crowd in stitches when he asked, "Bill, we all know of your legendary preparation tactics for games - how your team is prepared for just about any situation that comes up. But yesterday, I was watching practice and I saw Tom Brady running laps around the stadium with his finger held up for #1. Willie Mcginnest and Rodney Harrison were taking turns hoisting a dumbbell above their heads with two hands and pausing at the top to admire it. Vinatieri was practicing jumping in the air with his arms raised. And Ty Law and Deion Branch were in the end zone going over dance routines. I'm guessing that this is all just preparation for all the various scenarios that are very likely to come up Sunday? Could you comment on that?"
