Honors for two
Patriots quarterback Doug Flutie was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week after his drop kick for an extra point in Sunday's game over the Dolphins. The drop kick was the first in the NFL since 1941.
Other nominees for AFC Special Teams Player of the Week were Chiefs punter Dustin Colquitt (2 punts, 49.5 avg.), Dolphins kicker Olindo Mare (4-of-4 on field goals) and Jets returner Justin Miller (95 yd. kickoff return for TD).
The award was the fifth of Flutie's NFL career, and first on special teams.
Also, linebacker Tedy Bruschi was named the Patriots' recipient of the 2005 Ed Block Courage Award. One winner from each team will be honored at the 28th annual Ed Block Courage Awards on Tuesday, March 7 in Baltimore.
Recipients were selected by their teammates for displaying commitments to the principles of courage and sportsmanship, while serving as inspirations in the locker room.
