Practice notes

A few notes from Thursday afternoon's practice:

* The team worked on kickoff returns and Kelvin Kight, Willie Andrews, Laurence Maroney, Bam Childress, Kevin Faulk, Eddie Berlin and Ellis Hobbs were the returners.

* On one kickoff return, Maroney was driven deep into the end zone and hesitated on whether to bring the ball out. He stopped at the 1-yard line, then was urged by running backs coach Ivan Fears to get moving up the field.

* Willie Andrews continued to work at receiver and caught one pass on a crossing route from Matt Cassel in 7-on-7 work.

* Rookie Ryan O'Callaghan was working with the first team at right tackle.

* Stephen Gostkowski took most of the field goals and kickoffs in practice and finished the session going 5-of-5 on field goals in team work, with all of the attempts inside 30 yards.

* Cornerback Ellis Hobbs had one of the nicer plays of the workout, running stride for stride with scout-team receiver Keron Henry and intercepting a long pass down the right sideline.

* The team worked on various situations, including defending a Hail Mary on one play.

We'll have a final wrap later in the night.
