Smith claimed

The Patriots claimed receiver Jonathan Smith off waivers from the Buffalo Bills today. The team announced the release of receiver Bam Childress.

Here is a bit more on the 24-year-old Smith, who entered the league as a seventh-round choice in 2004. The 5-foot-10, 194-pound Smith has totaled eight receptions for 77 yards, with one touchdown. He has six kickoff returns for 152 yards and 15 punt returns for 198 yards and one touchdown. His punt return for a touchdown came on a 70-yard return against the Patriots at Gillette Stadium on Nov. 14, 2004. In the 2006 preseason, Smith caught six passes for 48 yards and led the Bills with six punt returns for 29 yards.
