Martz & Jauron
Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Mike Martz took a few minutes to chat with reporters this morning. He had high praise for the Patriots, saying they have survived the "transition" after winning Super Bowl championships as well as any team he's seen in the salary cap era. Some teams fall off after winning titles, but he said the Patriots have sustained success by making tough decisions, which usually are the right decisions.
Later, Dick Jauron reflected on his Swampscott, Mass., roots. He was recently back in town and said it was nice to bump into former Red Sox great Johnny Pesky.
Jauron also touched on his thoughts on the AFC East: "Clearly, last year, going into it, you had the Dolphins and the Patriots as the two contenders and then the Jets kind of surprised the football world. They have a terrific quarterback who came back off of injury and came back and led the team and did an outstanding job. I like our division, I love the rivalries within it, some of which go back to the AFL, and I'm looking forward to another great year in it."
