Pats & Premier

One NFL story that has generated attention this week is rookies missing time with their clubs to attend Reebok’s Player Rookie Premier in Los Angeles, such as this case in Indianapolis with first-round receiver Anthony Gonzalez. The Rookie Premier is considered an important event for the league and its sponsors.

The Patriots have not been affected by the event, as first-round draft choice Brandon Meriweather was not one of the 35 rookies invited. The majority of rookies who get invites are offensive players.

In the case of Indianapolis (Gonzalez) and Green Bay (Brandon Jackson), those clubs are holding minicamps this weekend and missing important time integrating top rookies into the mix. Next year, those clubs are likely to hold their minicamps on a different weekend.
