Brady, Part III
The knock on Randy Moss was that heís been slowed down by his attitude. As you start your relationship with him, how do you approach that?
ďI donít know what people say about him, and I try not to pre-judge people. You never know the experiences someone might have had or the opportunities they might have had. I try not to pre-judge teammates or stereotype guys before they get here. I just try to let the relationship develop as it is. Iíve been excited to have him around. Heís worked extremely hard. Heís in the weight room every day. Heís been here working out. Heís taken the trip with us to New Orleans. He was at the golf tournament yesterday. I think itís a great receiver group. The thing I worry about is Ďdo you know what to do, do you try hard, and are you unselfish?í That to me makes a good receiver. It seems like heís all three of those things, as far as Iím concerned. Thatís a great thing for the Patriots if all those guys are like that.Ē
Do you feel like with the turnover at receiver last year, you might benefit from having been through it?
ďI think itís going to change over time. Receivers come and go. Players come and go. Running backs come and go. Linemen come and go. Strengths that were strengths last year arenít going to be strengths this year. Itís going to be up to us, to see what we can put together in training camp, if we can develop an offense that is efficient both running and throwing the ball. Running the football requires a lot of different things, throwing the ball requires a lot of different things. With new receivers, new linemen, itís always going to be changing. I donít make a whole lot of predictions how difficult itís going to be. Iím just going to be willing to work as hard as I can and I know those guys are willing to work as hard as they can to see if we can become something that weíre all proud of, to try to get back to where we were last year. Like I said, in a lot of ways, throwing the ball last year, we did some very positive things. We did some things that werenít great either. It starts with myself, that I can do quite a bit better. Thatís what Iím looking forward to.Ē
Not just you specifically, but in general, for high-profile people, is it getting harder to life a private life that stays private? And does that bother you about celebrity?
ďI just think itís all money. People make money. Pictures in magazines. Thatís what it comes down to. Maybe there are so many multi-media outlets at this point, that everyone is jockeying for the latest and greatest of whatever it might be. You just try to go through your life and learn and grow and mature, and experience things that Iím sure everybody experiences. You have happy moments and you have moments that you learn from. Those are the challenges we all face, myself, my teammates, my family. I think the only hard part when you bring your family into it, you know? Thatís part of my life thatís very public, but at the same time my familyís life is not. Thatís been a difficult part, when people say things about your family. And you really have no control over that. I learned very valuable lessons when I was in college about trying to control what you can control. Often times, you can really only control the way you react toward it. And also, Iím very proud of the things that have gone on over the last 10 years of my life. So, I have a great mom and dad, a great family, and Iím very proud of the way they raised me.Ē
Did you find this offseason more difficult in regards to that issue?
ďI think every year it changes. There are different things every year. Iíve dealt with a lot in my life. Like I said, my teammates have dealt with a lot in their life. I think of some of my teammates and what theyíve gone through, itís extremely challenging. Iím very happy to be a part of this team. Iím very happy to be the quarterback here, to be out here in the middle of June, throwing passes to all these guys out here in white uniforms. I donít have any complaints about my life, or what Iím doing, or how excited I am to be here working out and playing for the New England Patriots.Ē
