Bill's take

FOXBOROUGH -- The Patriots wrapped up their lone practice today, on the second day of training camp. After the practice, which was closed to the public due to the Country Music Festival being held at Gillette Stadium, Bill Belichick answered questions from reporters.

He opened with the following statement:

“OK, we’re pushing through it here. We met this morning and came out this afternoon [for practice] and we’ll be back on the two-a-day schedule tomorrow. Just trying to make some improvements day to day here. We have a lot of stuff to cover and we’re just going through the installation. We have a lot of people working, a lot of things to cover, a lot of situations to go over. We worked on two-minute [offense] today, some of our sub defenses and stuff like that. We’ll keep adding to that as we go, day by day, and then hopefully by the end of the week or so we’ll have most of our stuff in and we can really start playing a little more situational football.

“We got a break here with the weather. Got some music [from the concert at the stadium]; already need to work on the crowd noise, so that was a little stress for both the offense and the defense in terms of communication. But we need that and the music is good. We have a lot of country [music] guys on this team.”

A bit later, Belichick was asked a few questions on rookie Brandon Meriweather. One was if he was a better fit at corner or safety.

“We’ll work him at both spots. He’s played a lot of different positions in college. He’s played the nickel position, the corner position, the safety position. We’ll use him in some different spots and see how it goes. People on our team are going to have to have some versatility and play different spots anyway, so he falls into that category.”

Looking ahead, we’ll wrap up the day with our five observations from practice a bit later.
