Honor for Brady

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff September 26, 2007 02:10 PM

Patriots QB Tom Brady has been named AFC Offensive Player of the Week.

Brady posted a career-high 150.9 passer rating and tied his career-high with four touchdown passes in a 38-7 win over division opponent Buffalo. He completed 23 of 29 passes (79.3 percent) for 311 yards.

This is Brady’s eighth Player of the Week Award in his eight-year career.

In addition to Brady, the nominees were Dolphins running back Ronnie Brown, Broncos receiver Brandon Marshall, Chiefs tight end Tony Gonzalez, Ravens running back Willie McGahee, and Steelers running back Willie Parker.

  1. Well deserved, praise.
Imagine if Brady had had these weapons at his disposal last year. But last year is gone, a lesson learned. Hopefully Management will never again deplete the receiving staff without talkling to Tom.

  1. he deserved and it and think he could of had better numbers if the offense didn't stumble in the beginning and he also sat out most of the 4th quarter

  1. It would be very interesting to know how well David Givens and Deion Branch are doing without Tom Brady throwing to them. We hear a lot about how Randy Moss, Wes Welker, Donte Stallworth, et al have improved the Pats passing game (and some of it is true) but the real key is Brady. Where is Reche Caldwell this year? Where is Bethel Johnson? Where are all the other "back-up" receivers Brady had to live with before management acquired talent for Brady's extraordinary talent? Without Tom Brady the Pats would be an also-ran even with Moss, Welker, etc.

  1. Now keep Rivers out of the Pro Bowl this year. Should have been Brady last year, and yes, I'm still bitter.

  1. Brady benefits from a balanced attack on offense. Defense have no idea whether or not to defend the run or the pass. In previous years, The Pat's pass offense relied on the screen pass to slow down the d line. Even given this, there are few quarterbacks in history who could hit a receiver in stride like he hit Moss on Sunday.

Excellent point. Maybe now the rest of the NFL will learn that it really won't get them anywhere when they raid all the Patriots' free agents (and coaches too for that matter. Any updates on Charlie Weiss is doing?)

  1. Rivers was a one year wonder....I was sick to my stomach to see him voted to the pro bowl instead of Brady. TB should be a perreniel pro-bowler because he's simply the BEST.

  1. As a longtime Pats fan it's great to hear all the national pundits praising Tom Brady and the Patriots! In my humble opinion Brady has deserved league MVP honors a couple times already. Look at what he's done with mediocre talent. Maybe now that he has the weapons to hit all those lofty figures he'll get it this year! We're living the good old days right now ladies and gentlemen. I know I'm having fun!!!

  1. This week Moss will gather all the Bengals attention - while the other receivers snag Brady's offerings.

  1. Hey, from the Green Mountains
Every bit of praise for TB is well deserved. He has worked for it.

As far as I am concerned, every honor, every award given to these Patriots will never be enough. I remember when the Pats were the door mat of the NFL back in the Soldier Field days. Too many Super Bowls will never enough for me.

Let's also recognize the coaching staff, their meticulous preparation, the work of the offensive and defensive lines and having a head coach who can out think anyone on any day of the week.

    Let the new Dynasty reign!

  1. Living outside of Patriots' country, my husband and I will always remain avid fans. Distance in miles doesn't cloud the fact the team has faced public/media scrutiny, only to show their real talent.

With the numbers Brady is producing with his team, it's no wonder he is player of the week.

Flying the Patriots flag high in the south!

  1. My only regret was not seeing Brady play college ball. I bet he was just as good as he is with the Patriots. Keep on doing what you do Tom and when you're done playing for the Patriots you would be the best quaterback in the Hall of Fame.
