Hairston to Colts

By Mike Reiss, Globe Staff

Running back Justise Hairston, a 2007 sixth-round draft choice of the Patriots, has signed with the Colts' practice squad.

Hairston was selected with the 208th pick of the draft. He sustained an injury before Patriots training camp, was waived, and then returned to the Patriots on the injured reserve list. On Sept. 12, he was released from injured reserve.

Clarification, please. Since placing a player on IR finishes the player's season, does releasing the player from IR make the player a free agent? And is the player prohibited from re-signing with the team that released him?

I'm a CCSU Blue Devil Alumni. I hope Hairston catches on and gets some playing time.

My goodness. I read that as "Harrison to Colts." I mean, I like James Sanders and all, but talk about skipping a heartbeat!

Jets released offensive lineman Mike Elgin (NE draftpick) from the practice squad.

Think Patriots will re-sign him?
