Positional groupings

By Mike Reiss, Globe Staff

A look at the positional groupings used by the Patriots in their 34-17 win over the Browns on Sunday:

3 WR/1 TE/1 RB -- 48 of 70 snaps
2 WR/2 TE/1 RB -- 9 of 70
3 TE/1 FB/1 RB -- 5 of 70
1 WR/2 TE/1 FB/1 RB -- 4 of 70
3 WR/1 FB/1 RB -- 2 of 70
1 WR/3 TE/1 RB -- 2 of 70

QUICK HITS: The Patriots kept it relatively simple in this game, relying mostly on their three-wide package. The unit opened the game in the no-huddle, keeping the same personnel in the three-wide package on the field for the first eight snaps in an attempt to set the tempo. ... Donte' Stallworth's first-quarter 34-yard touchdown catch was out of the 2 WR/2 TE/1 RB grouping. ... Benjamin Watson's 7-yard touchdown in the third quarter was out of the primary 3 WR/1 TE/1 RB package. ... Watson's fourth quarter scoring grab, of 25 yards, was one of the two plays run out of the 1 WR/3 TE/1 RB grouping, with Heath Evans serving as the third tight end by lining up on the line of scrimmage. ... The short-yardage/goal-line package of 3 TE/1 FB/1 RB -- with Mike Vrabel as the third tight end and Heath Evans as the fullback -- was productive as it paved the way to the key fourth-and-1 conversion in the fourth quarter.

During the off season there were a lot of stories about the Pats' new zone blocking scheme.

Any thoughts on that and the time Brady has had to throw the ball and the success of the running game?
