Sights & sounds

By Mike Reiss, Globe Staff

A few sights and sounds from the Patriots' locker room:

  • WR Troy Brown, who is on the Patriots' physically unable to perform list, walked through during the media-access period. He continues to train in hopes of returning to action.

  • DL Jarvis Green, CB Ellis Hobbs, TE Benjamin Watson and RB Sammy Morris were a few players drawing larger media crowds.

  • Hobbs, who was wearing a No. 18 Boston Red Sox Johnny Damon jersey, was asked if Sunday's game against the Cowboys is a "measuring stick" type of contest. "I don't think of it as a measuring stick," he responded. "We think of it as a big game because it's the next game. Obviously, from a record standpoint this is the best team that we've faced up to this point, so when we got out there we have to understand the situation. We're away from home, this and that, but let's not make it more than what it is. This isn't determing the playoffs. It's not 'the Super Bowl matchup' or whatever. We're going into Week 6 and this is the next game."

  • More college ties: Sammy Morris hung his red "throwback" No. 5 Texas Tech jersey above Ellis Hobbs' locker, a result of his alma mater beating Hobbs' alma mater (Iowa State). Meanwhile, when Donte' Stallworth saw Benjamin Watson being interviewed by ESPN, he interrupted and asked why Watson wasn't wearing the University of Tennessee jacket he was supposed to be donning. The ESPN cameras continued to roll as Watson, in a Georgia hat, explained why he had to wear the Tennessee jacket, a result of the Bulldogs' loss to the Volunteers.

If it was a home jersey, how do you know it wasn't a Daisuke jersey?

    Unrelated thought...

I'm sick of hearing about humble pie already. Why does every reporter try to work it in to every conversation with every player?

Hi Mike. The only reason I knew it was Damon was that it had Damon's name on the back..
