Tom's take

By Mike Reiss, Globe Staff

FOXBOROUGH -- Quarterback Tom Brady answered questions from the media today in the locker room at Gillette Stadium. He was asked about running back Sammy Morris, who is expected to miss time with a chest/collarbone injury.

"Sammy's done a great job, no doubt about that. I'm sure he would have loved to have played this week," Brady said. "The other backs, in the meantime, have to fill in. I think one thing that was great last week was the way Kevin Faulk stepped in there and played against the regular defense, running a bunch of runs he hadn't run in a few years. We're going to need more of that.

"It's a test for the offense. Any time guys are down, other guys have to step it up. Other guys have to pick it up. Hopefully we're able to fill in this week against a team we always have problems with, especially down in Miami. We know in 2004, they were 2-11 and we were 12-1 and got our butt kicked."

The running back group was a hot topic of discussion, with Kyle Eckel and Heath Evans answering questions from the media today. Laurence Maroney walked through the locker room but declined to chat with reporters. Bill Belichick also talked about the running backs, noting that the team has confidence in all of them.

EXTRA POINTS: In the locker room, WR Chad Jackson, who is on the physically unable to perform list, said he feels 100 percent recovered from the torn ACL he sustained in the AFC Championship game. He did not reveal if the team was planning to start practicing him today. ... Bill Belichick also did not answer a question regarding the team's plans to start the clock on any of the players on the physically unable to perform list today.

Mike, what is your feeling on the PUP players status?

Jpe Palooka said:

The six touchdwns scored against Dallas last Sunday were all made by players who were NOT on the Patriots' roster last year. Compare that kind of player evaluation against what the Red Sox have done with acquisitions such as Drew, Gagne, and Crisp. The guy in charge ofpersonnel with the Pats is obviously doing a better job.

To Joe Palooka:
you are right - Pioli and company do a better job. However more importantl to the Red Sox the guy making the personnel decisions for the Cleveland Indians has done even better. Maybe we need to give Theo a new place to work. If you addup the cost of Dice K - Gagne - Drew that probably totals more than the entire Cleveland payroll. Then we have Manny Today spouting off - well its no problem if we don'r win we can try again next year!! That type of attitude would never make it with the Patriots.

I agree with Palooka. Given the amount of money Theo has to work with--something over $100 million--he's brought it some lousy free agents. If anyone gets fired this year, I hope it's Theo and not Tito.

You're forgetting our farm system. Theo's had a role in developing that and we're getting some excellent talent moving up the old fashioned way.

I hope(and pray) that Moroney can carry the load!

You can say what you want about Theo, but before he came to Boston we where always over shadowed by the Yankees!
