4 from locker room

FOXBOROUGH -- Four nuggets from the Patriots' locker room today:

  • 1) Linebackers in focus. With Rosevelt Colvin landing on season-ending injured reserve, the Patriots' linebacker position drew the spotlight in media interviews. Adalius Thomas, Chad Brown, Eric Alexander and Pierre Woods answered questions from the media. Thomas said he was unaware if his role would change, perhaps switching more from inside linebacker to outside linebacker.

  • 2) Maroney the running back, Faulk the passing back. Running back Laurence Maroney pointed out the distinction between his role and Kevin Faulk's. "Kevin is our passing guy. He's that situational part of the team. Kevin is the passing running back, so when we're in that formation, Kevin is the guy. ... Laurence is the running guy, Kevin is the passing guy. We know our roles." Maroney also acknowledged that it was nice to get the call on the running play that scored the team's winning touchdown against the Eagles. "It made me feel they feel they have a little faith in me, I couldn't let them down," he said.

  • 3) Brady on night games. Monday marks the third straight night game for the Patriots, and quarterback Tom Brady noted how that affects the team. "I'm tired of them. I look around at all these tired faces today and I think everyone is just dragging a bit. You just don't get home until late, and it feels like you're trying to get caught up throughout the week."

  • 4) No Brown sighting. Receiver Troy Brown did not show up in the locker room during the media-access period. The locker for rookie defensive lineman Kareem Brown, who was waived Tuesday, remained intact. Brown could return if he clears waivers.

    1. Hopefully, they will integrate Woods and Alexander and not just rely on the old guys to fill in for Colvin. With the depth at d-line, it would seem to make sense to run more of a 4-3 defense when the situation seems right. If they end up putting Thomas and Vrabel on the outside, have the oldies rotate in on one ILB spot, and have one of the young guys fill in at the other spot, I think they could still have a dangerous LB corp.
