Brady passes Peyton

By Mike Reiss, Globe Staff November 21, 07 07:33 AM

With three weeks left in fan voting for the Pro Bowl, Tom Brady has passed Peyton Manning as the AFC's leader vote-getter.

Last week at this time, Manning had the edge on Brady, but the Patriots quarterback had a good week at the polls. Brady has totaled 564,762 fan votes on NFL.com, while Manning currently has 552,845.

Brady's total is the second highest among all NFL players, trailing only Packers QB Brett Favre (601,179).

Fan voting continues on NFL.com through Dec. 11 and accounts for one-third of the Pro Bowl process. Players and coaches votes count for the final two-thirds of the process.

Here are the top 10 vote-getters among fan voting on NFL.com at this time:

  • Favre (601,179)
  • Brady (564,762)
  • Manning (552,845)
  • Randy Moss (439,637)
  • Tony Romo (423,472)
  • Adrian Peterson (406,048)
  • Joseph Addai (392,533)
  • Terrell Owens (348,498)
  • LaDainian Tomlinson (323,583)
  • Devin Hester (314,300)

    1. I can't believe it took until this week for Brady to pass Manning in the voting. Do people vote based upon the number of TV commercials or the numbers put up on the field? Mangini probably has more votes than Belichik for Coach of the Year.

    1. How do I cast my votes for the upcoming Pro Bowl? I find nothing on NFL.com that permits me to make a vote.

    1. Now to get past Favre, to get to Numero Uno where Brady belongs. Favre is lucky not to have a game with Patriots in the regular season.

    1. Why is anyone even bothering to vote for Tom? It's not like he'll show up. He always has a reason to not got to Hawaii. Apparently, he'd rather golf than have the honor that his fans bestow upon him.

    1. I would prefer them not to go to the probowl we all know its who talks the most and who does the most commercials. We all know the pats O should play the NFC squad ( and blow them out). Anyone remember Robert Edwards? Yeah stay home patriots and relish the championship.

    1. Sarah, I would rather have Tom keep playing in Super Bowls over Pro Bowls.

    1. It wasnt JR Redmond. .. It was Robert Edwards. I agree though... Tom shouldnt go... he's too valuable to take any chances. Also.. Peyton will always be more popular... he's in the media more and that what counts... not actual championships like Tom has. And I think Tom would prefer it that way..... as well as another superbowl over a "perfect" season. Superbowl Rings is what matters most. Happy Thanksgiving everyone !!! Sunday is Philly's turn to face the machine....

    1. Manning can't hold a candle to Tom Brady. Tom is the smarter more talented quarterback, infact the BEST in the NFL. He doesn't whine about injured players, he works with what he has (which right now, happen to be the best in the business), but when the Patriot's had injuries they did NOT make excuses for themselves. Coach Bill wouldn't allow that either. The Pats were picked on when they were struggling, and now that they are great it's still the same old same old. They get no respect. People just need to get over it! They are the greatest team to take the field this season for sure!

    1. People listen up. Favre and Romo are NFC quarterbacks and Brady is an AFC quarterback. So Favre can get 20,000 votes and Brady will still be the AFC representative.

    1. I am not sure it makes a difference if any Patriots at all go to the Pro-Bowl.
The Pat's are not about individual achievements, so I really don't think they care.
Getting voted into the pro-bowl probably isn't one of their goals. If it was me, I would rather be at home polishing my trophy / ring than playing a meaningless game that nobody watches anyway. As far as "honor fans bestow upon them" (a la Sahra) I would feel honored to watch Brady throw a couple more TD's in the SB.

    1. I live here on Oahu and have gone to the Pro Bowl in the past. Okay, sure, there's always an outside chance of an injury but from what I've seen, and I mean fairly close up to the action, the players all seem to respect the fact that the Pro Bowl is exactly what it is...an exhibition...and as such, don't go full out after one another as they would in normal league games. Tom Brady played in it in '06 and I can remember that he only played a quarter or so and wasn't touched.

    1. Brady is a superior to Mannign as a quarterback. He is clearly more intelligent and a better athlete. His passes are crisper and more accurate. Manning often throws up wobbly, floating passes. Manning appears much more nervous in the pocket compared to Brady.

    1. It was just a few weeks ago that the Globe was trashing Brady, claiming that Manning was America's everyman hero while Brady was resented for being a Hollywood type. Fittingly for this kind of nonsense posing as high-minded analysis, it was published in the Ideas section, not the Sports section. Guess they were wrong after all.

    1. Tom is the best quarterback in the NFL, no doubt about it, but do not under any circumstance state that Brown was a "nobody"!!

    1. Robert Edwards was injured playing football on the beach, not in a game. The only way JR Redmond saw a Pro Bowl game was on his TV. As for the Mr Popularity article in the Globe what do you expect when a film reviewer writes about Sports? The only thing worse is when the News Department does it because news reporters know NOTHING about sports. Personally, I wouldn't use the other sections of the paper to wrap fish in.

    1. Tom always goes to the Pro Bowl when voted in... the only time he didn't go was last year because he was hurt and he was an alternate, he wasn't voted in even though he should of been considering he led a pretty crappy New England team to the AFC Championship game. Philip Rivers was voted in ahead of him... I see.
