Eagles view

Some links from Philadelphia on the Eagles' perspective heading into Sunday night's game against the Patriots:

  • While much attention has been paid to A.J. Feeley replacing Donovan McNabb at quarterback, the Philadelphia Inquirer also points out that starting strong safety Quintin Mikell is out, which means J.R. Reed is slated to start. This will mark Reed's second career start.

  • Philadelphia Inquirer columnist Phil Sheridan writes that Boston and Philadelphia have long been linked, but as Boston sports teams win championships that bond is being broken.

  • Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Johnson touches on the challenge of facing the Patriots in this Philadelphia Inquirer piece. Johnson would like to see Patriots QB Tom Brady pressured, and is also targeting third down. "Hopefully, we get a bunch [of sacks] this week," Johnson said. "But I would take no sacks this week if we held them to 18 percent on third down. Do we need to get them in second and long and third and long? Yes, we have to. We have to keep working on that, and our guys have to step it up. Jevon [Kearse] is going to play a little more this week. We'll see if we can get some better pressure."

  • The Wilmington (Del.) News-Journal turns back the clock to 1990 when the New York Giants -- then 10-0 -- visited the 6-5 Eagles. Bill Belichick was the defensive coordinator for the Giants that year, but the Eagles posted a 31-13 win. Seventeen years later, the Eagles are hoping to knock off another 10-0 team, tonight against the Patriots.

  • The Delaware County Daily Times reflects on Patriots coach Bill Belichick's motivational tactics leading into Super Bowl XXXIX against the Eagles, telling his players that the Eagles had already planned a Super Bowl championship parade. The teams meet up again Sunday night for the first time since the Super Bowl and the Daily Times looks at the task facing the Eagles.
