CAROLLO GETS CALL: Bill Carollo's crew has been assigned to work Sunday night's game between the Patriots and Bills at Ralph Wilson Stadium. Carollo is in his 19th season as an NFL official. He has not worked a Patriots game this season.

PATS-BILLS REVISITED: Looking back on the Patriots' offensive approach in their first meeting against the Bills, the team was in its three-wide package on 47 of 68 snaps. That didn't appear to be the Patriots' initial game-plan, as the game started with a majority of two-TE and three-TE packages before the team made a major shift to the three-wide look. The switch was dictated by the Bills' unexpected defensive strategy which took away the inside runs the Patriots seemingly wanted to execute. It will be interesting to see if the Bills take a similar approach Sunday night.

UNDER THE HOODIE: Bill Belichick is the subject of this "Under The Hoodie" article by ESPN.com's Elizabeth Merrill in which Merrill explores the "human side" of the Patriots coach.

SATURDAY PLAN: We'll be traveling to Buffalo this afternoon. The plan will be to pass along any players who might be downgraded on the injury report tonight when that information becomes available.

  1. Excellent article, well worth reading. the following is my response to it.:

BB is one of the best Football Coaches of all times. Many people hate him and his teams because of their success. Why should he provide more info on himself, it would only be used for fuel by the haters and distract from the very difficult task of leading the NE Patriots to their fourth Super Bowl victory. Why would anyone in their right mind want to make that job any more difficult? Everyone who loves to hate the Patriots would only use it to further their own cause. If you are open minded enough to see, you will find that BB is quite human and a very engaging person at the appropriate times. He is not tolerant of stupid questions nor of ones that have been asked too many times before. His loyalty is to his team and organization as it should be. Hate the Patriots and BB if you must, but they may still go down as one of the finest in all of NFL history and deservedly so. Just look at how many other teams are now doing things the "Patriot Way". That is what all the best teams do, why? Because it works. BB just does it better than any of them so far. Go Patriots, beat Buffalo!

  1. To say that the Patriots will go down as one of the "finest" in NFL History is to be ignorant of NFL history - you are just being a homer. Exactly what is the "Patriot Way"? Do you have an explanation for BB's failure in Cleveland?

  1. The truth is, what is successful for the team (one week at a time, no looking ahead, etc.) is boring for us, and what is unsuccessful for the team (locker-room bickering, grandiose assertions) is entertaining for us. So, BB does what is good for the team and what is boring for us for six days of the week.

  1. people think of BB as Cheney, the football version. Listen, the guy hangs out with Bon Jovi and went to Weslyan. A fascist pathological hater he's not.

  1. To comment #2 paula

Is there some NFL history that I do not know about? If the pats did go 19-0 this year, they would be the finest team ever. That is not being a homer, it is simply the truth.

I hate the Yankees but I can admit that they are the best baseball franchise ever.

What would you want the pats to do, beat the Pro-bow teams too? 19-0 is unthinkable and plus it would make it 4 Superbowl victories in 8 years. Do you live on another planet?

  1. Excellent point Alex. I've always felt the same way. Which would you rather have: a coldly efficient, championship-seeking, guided missile with maniacal attention to controlling every possible detail, or a front-office distracted by the media and hyper-conscious of presenting a friendly face to the public?

I'll take BB and his ways any day of the week.

Paula - to me, what really defines the "Patriot Way" is a ruthless business-like approach to the entire football operation, as the Patriots have done so effectively over the years. For example, losing Adam was hard on the heart, but was the right football move. Same with Willie, Lawyer, Andruzzi, etc. etc.

  1. Anyone who doesn't consider this team to be one of the best in NFL history IS ignorant of NFL history. How many ,ore records do they need to set for one to admit they are one of the best, if not the best, ever?

  1. You know what I love about Bill... Is he does not give a crap what anyone thinks of him... All he cares about is winning and what is best for his team... He takes one minute at a time focuses on that minute then moves on to the next... really we all could learn something from that in our own personal lives...

  1. The best trait that BB has is learning from his mistakes. Why does he handle the media and preach the same to his players? Because he learned from his experience in Cleveland. Why did he and Scott go get Moss, Welker, Thomas, Stalworth, Washington? Because they could not beat the Colts with Gaffney and Caldwell. He has to be considered one of the most intelligent coaches in the history of the game and I believe that he was the reason for Parcell's success. The Pats deserve the success they are having because they work hard and are one of the most intelligent teams in the league. Put that in your video camera and record it!

  1. Paula stop being a message board troll and go root for your own team and stop worrying about ours. As far as im concerend every Decade has a team that is outstanding throughout and in the 2000's that just happens to be the pats. And if we go 19-0 and win our 4th superbowl in 8 years and make our 5th appearance in 11 years that to me is dominance and one of the greatest teams of all time. Now if you dont mind go away.

  1. What we all have to recognize is we, and the entire football fan population in America, is we are watching one of the greatest dynasties ever. Yes, there were the distractions such as Spygate but is there any proof that the evidence viewed by the NFL would have cause the Patriots to lose those 3 championships? At best, we don't know the answer to either side of that question. Yet they still have those 3 titles and looking for more this year. If someone is going to call BB a cheater, then the Steelers of the 70's can be questioned on their 4 championships too. I remember some players admitted and were accused of steroids back during their championship run. Tainted? I haven't heard anything but praise for Bradshaw and the gang. 20 years from now - all we will hear is praise for the Brady Bunch with BB being the figurehead on what could be the greatest football dynasties ever to be witnessed. Sit back, grab the potato chips, and enjoy the ride... It doesn't get any better than this...

  1. All your accolades for BB are well deserved and I know that you haven't forgotten who pushes the cart while they both shop for the "groceries", Scott Pioli. When the Pats go 19-0 in this era of the salary cap they'll be no question of their being the finest team in NFL history.

  1. Spygate is overblown, rivals knew what was going and change their signals, Who's cheating whom?

This pratice might still be going on in the league on a different level , someone still needs to prove that BB has been doing this all along.

  1. Note on refs: Carollo did Colts-Pats AFCC last year and Divisional playoff game in 2004 I wonder if he will apologize to Hobbs personally for last year's AFCC? ...:)

  1. Paula The PATRIOT WAY is that we are talking about our team on their site. Were not on your team’s site talking about the Pats. It is coach Bill kicking your team’s ass. Then talking to the press about what the team could have done better. It’s losing and talking to the press about what the team could have been done better. It starts at the top and trickles down. It shows consistency and it’s a great thing to have in clutch situations. Try asking an Indy fan on an Indy site about consistency in the clutch sometime. For one last time its illegal to film from the sideline but not in a booth. It’s just a matter of where you do it. This is one more media issue that is told one-sided. Bill not talking about it is the PATRIOT WAY.
