Kareem Brown to Jets

By Mike Reiss, Globe Staff November 28, 07 07:06 PM

Defensive lineman Kareem Brown, who was waived by the Patriots on Tuesday, has been claimed by the New York Jets.

The Ravens and 49ers had also placed a waiver claim on Brown. But since the Jets have the worst record among the three teams at 2-9, they were awarded Brown.

The Patriots drafted Brown in the fourth round out of the University of Miami. Brown did not appear in a game this season and it was assumed that he would return to the Patriots' practice squad if he cleared waivers.

  1. So, will he provide the Jets with VIDEO shots of all the Pats practices? (lol)

  1. THis pisses me off. So we get one injury to an OLB and we need to release a DL to sign a back-up?!! That makes no sense! Now, we lose K Brown, who supposedly was to have some potential. Why not just back-up Colvin with another OLB, like most teams do?! Chad Brown will stink it up again and we'll release him and be left trying to draft another backup for the DL next year when we already had a guy. Just stupid.

What ever happened to devoloping some talent? Now, if a guy can't play special teams and start right away, he's immediately waiver fodder.

  1. Argh! Lame. I preferred the potential of Kareem Brown to the known quantity of Eddie Jackson. Why wasn't that guy cut instead? Stupid. And to the Jets, no less.

  1. Where is Artrell "Sexy Voice" Hawkins or Hank Poteat?

Cut Mangini a little slack he is just trying to gain every advantage and develop a game plan against the Patriots .(a little sarcasm)

  1. Uh what? The pats have developed plenty of talent, five angels. Seymour, Wilfork, Warren, Green and Smith were all drafted by the pats and Wright was signed as a undrafted FA.

Brown was behind all of those guys. The pats had to get rid of someone to make room and the DL was a position from which the pats can take a hit.

We already have a replacement for Colvin, his name is Adalius Thomas. We've all seen he's more productive at OLB and I think our defense will be better for it. Seau and Tedy won't have the luxury of rotating at ILB anymore but I think they'll be fine.

  1. Umm 5 angels, we released Kareem for Troy. Chad was signed with the spot available after Rosie was put on IR. Please know what your talking about. My guess is Chad was not brought in to start but because he knows the system and is an emergency emergency player. I think Pieree Woods and Eric Alexander will get more time.

  1. Yes, Kareem's bust was already being made in Canton while BB's extreme myopia in having the never dependable and not very talented Troy B and Chad Brown is going to cost this team the shutout they would have had with Kareem playing in place of the faltering Wilfork/Seymour/Warren. If there's one thing the Patriots need is a better DL. Thanks for agreeing with me guys.

  1. THC, that's wishful thinking. Tedy can't handle coverage too well anymore - he's always many steps behind, so now you are going to force him to be in on passing downs? And at his age?

As to your other comment, when was the last LB cultivated rather than plucked from free agency? TB himself - right? All the guys, with the exception of Mike Wright, were drafted some time ago. They have a guy they like (Pierre Woods), so why not give him the start rather than sacrifice the middle of the field in a 3-4 defense? Thomas would be great on the outside if we had a Lua or Freddie Roach to plug in the middle, but we don't, unless you feel Alexander is ready.

All I remember is last year the starting LBs were sucking wind in the second half of the Colts game and Alexander had to play with no freakin' experience. We're blowing teams out of the water most games by 30 pts, you think we could start getting these guys some playing time or stop drafting in the 2-6 rounds to get solely special team players?

  1. I think Five Angels should coach the Pats. He's got his finger on the pulse here. BB is just making a mess of this team.

  1. Hey - I'm not Ron Borges, over here! I'm worried that we're releasing our potential future and depth for two guys that aren't really going to add that much this year. I know that is speculation, but I really don't see troy doing too much, and Chad Brown (?!) - c'mon. He has barely been a contributor at all. Couldn't an Eric ALexander or Woods do the same things? Seriously, I'm asking whether these guys are really not ready to start getting some playing time, especially when we're up by 30 pts a game?
