McNabb out

By Mike Reiss, Globe Staff November 24, 07 01:05 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles announced today that QB Donovan McNabb has been downgraded to out for Sunday night's game against the New England Patriots. The Eagles will have A.J. Feeley making his first start at quarterback since Dec. 26, 2004.

Earlier this week, Patriots coach Bill Belichick was asked how the Eagles' offense would change if Feeley was playing instead of McNabb.

"Feeley beat us down there in Miami a couple years ago, so we have a lot of respect for him and a lot of respect for McNabb. They’re both outstanding quarterbacks. They both can run the system and Feeley got in there and ran it last week in Miami after McNabb went out. He played it very well.

"I think that they can keep it rolling no matter who’s in there. Again, it’s such a well-oiled system and they’ve had a lot of continuity. They have a very experienced offensive line, certainly one of the best offensive lines in the league, so they can pretty much keep it rolling probably with just about anybody in there. Just like they did last year when they plugged in [Jeff] Garcia. It seems it doesn’t matter who the quarterback is. They seem to be able to move the ball pretty effectively, and I think that’s a credit to not only the quarterback and the coaching but the entire offensive unit."

The Eagles also announced that Quintin Mikell, who is listed on the depth chart as the team's starting strong safety, has been downgraded to out.

  1. I wonder if this will move the point spread up to 30+ points? Since the Eagles now have absolutely positive no chance at all to beat the Pats even with the 23.5 point spread! Can you say 11-0? I can.

  1. I am a Steeler fan, but i still believe Feeley can carry this team well. Maybe not as well as McNabb, but he still can provide what is needed.

  1. Thats good news! Now we don't need to get the "speedy-dry" absorbent material out of the maintenance shed and haul it up to the Stadium. That stuff gives us excellent results and protects the proturf from "puke" stainage. That's one less thing we need to worry about. Nuff said.

  1. Watch out. These are the situations that just beg for him having a career day.

  1. It sounds like BB is holding a mirror up to the Patriots but is substituting the name {Jeff} Garcia.

I am sure that BB has a plan for Feeley. I bet the Team saw a lot of him in his comeback win with Miami game this week. The D will not let that happen again.

I almost fell sorry for the Eagles... Naw, not really. Go Patriots! BD.

  1. Don't be mislead. Regardless of who'd quarterback, the Patriots have their focus squarely on stopping Brian Westbrook. He is the LaDanian Tomlinson of the Eagles. He is perhaps even more important to the Eagles' offense than LT is to the Chargers'. First priority: keep Westbrook from running. Second priority: keep Westbrook from catching. Third priority: make Feeley beat you by throwing to other receivers. Of course, the Patriots' offensive goal is to put the Eagles into a big enough hole that they are forced to throw their way out of it.

  1. Please, AJ Feeley is horrible! He has only played in 3 games in the past 4 seasons. He is averaging 152 Yards per game and has throw for 4 TD's, 1 INT, and had 1 Fumble. He's going to have at least that many TD's and twice as many yards. It's not going to happen against the Pats D which is only giving up 15 points per game.

That's worse than saying Charlie Batch is going to have a career day and beat the Pats! It's about as possible of it being 70 degrees tomorrow in Foxboro.

  1. I don't believe the Pats will have much of a problem dispatching the Eagles. Feeley, or McNabb or Garcia...or anyone else at QB. They are outmatched by the Pats on both offense and defense. I predict 11-0. Go Pats!

  1. While McNabb enjoys his Campbell's New England clam chowder from the sidelines with his mom, the Pats are going to enjoy some Feeley Fish Fillet and roasted bird.

Happy thanksgiving Patriots, enjoy the feast!

  1. be humble pats fans, feely beat the pats in miami in december 2004, a 4th quarter comeback, it was a shocking loss... i am a pats fan, but i am keeping my head, this is a trap situation, pats must not take it too lightly... i am looking for revenge on feely though, that game still sticks in my craw.

  1. The Eagles have been wounded with the loss of McNabb. Feeley is no Garcia but let's not forget that the Eagels Defenese has been tough this year and not the reason for the 500 team. I think the Patriots romp but covering the spread might not be as easy as past weeks.
