Pats-Bills to 8:15

By Mike Reiss, Globe Staff

The Patriots' road game against the Bills on Nov. 18 is being moved to an 8:15 p.m. kickoff, the NFL announced today.

This is the first game that is eligible to be moved as part of the league's flexible scheduling. The game will be broadcast on NBC.

"The Patriots quest for a perfect season is clearly the biggest story in the NFL," said Dick Ebersol, Chairman, NBC Universal, Sports & Olympics. "It's also been 13 years since the NFL's premier primetime game visited Buffalo and it will be quite a scene there."

Does this mean the Bears-Seahawks game (originally scheduled for 8:15 on NBC) is pushed to earlier in the day such as 4pm?

Steve said:

I think, like many others, this is where the upset will come - huge reward with little risk.

Mark said:

What does that mean for the steelers game... can CBS block that from moving to a night game

Not even a chance of an upset . Belichick coming off a bye against an opponent he's already seen? And the only threat the Bills have is Marshawn Lynch, and he will be contained. I think the Steelers are the only remaining team with a real shot at knocking off the Pats, and maybe the Giants with that ferocious pass rush can convince Bill to protect Brady for the playoffs. I'm surprised, to be honest , that this game was put in the spotlight. I guess the theory is that the Bills will beat the Dolphins next Sunday so it's a match of two teams with winning records. But really, the Bills? They must be one of the least talked about teams in the league with no national stars.

It's fancy speak for "ESPN MNF" is not the PREMIER prime time game... a subtle dig.

go billlllls. Hoping for upset. Bills play hearts out on constant bases. At home, they play everbody competative, at night they play elite teams grat, at home, at night, in november, four game winning streak, if there ever was a chance for the bills to pull the upset, this is the time.

NBC should have gotten the Patriots-Jets on December 16 game which is the "Spygate" re-match. NBC likes storylines since their pre-game show is almost like watching a political talk show.

i live in london and i'm glad that the game has been moved to the late slot since the sunday night game and monday night football is on television here. the games start at 1:30 am :=( but what is a pat's fan to do? glad the sox swept so i didn't lose as much sleep if the series had gone seven.

This switch really messes up the plans for Pats' fans like me who already have reservations made for the trip to Buffalo. I'm still going to the game, but now I lost half of my group who had planned to attend the 1PM game. Anybody want to buy 4 seats in the end zone? Flex scheduling sucks!!

This stinks for those of us making the trip out to Buffalo to see the game.

Are they anticipating an evening snow storm will disrupt the Pats?

Does this mean that the Eagles game the following Sunday will be moved from 8:15 to 1:00,? I hope so..

First, I doubt an undefeated season is a priority in itself for either Belichick or the Players--they have as much as said so. If it happens, fine, but it is not a goal. THE GOAL is winning the superbowl.

Second--all the kefuffle about running up the score etc is media/fan hype. History is the teacher here.

Three times Belichick, as coach of the Cleveland Browns (pre-moving van to Baltimore Browns) took his team to the threshold of playoffs/AFC championships and three times he watched John Elway beat his teams on last possessions, or his team self destruct on the threshold of glory at the end of games....spin clock to 2006...

Patriots, despite no really great receivers and a banged up defense are beating Indianapolis in their own house. Then, Peyton Manning gets a comeback going and wins on the last possession of the game....

There is a lesson there...Belechick, graduate of Williams, is not stupid. In the NFL players can turn the momentum the score and the results around in less than 2 minutes. The game is 60 minutes long.....

So, there is a lesson here....and I doubt I have to spell it out.....

Belichik is a graduate of Wesleyan (who lost to Williams this past weekend)

I heard on "EEI this afternoon that the Eagles game will be moved to Fox at 4:15 so they can benefit from having the Pats as the back end of their Sunday doubleheader.

Really, everyone except fans win with this move. CBS already scored big ratings with yesterday's game and the Bills while competitive won't be able to stop Brady and Company. MIght not be a rout but I expect the Pats to win by at least 3 TDs.

Not to get ahead of ourselves, but I completely agree with Steve... Potential for huge reward with very little risk on NBC's part. The reward, however, can come in either of two ways: Yes, Steve, this could be the upset special, but for those optimistic Pats fans out there who, like me, think the Pats will be victorious, this game could also mark the earliest (week 11) a division champion has ever been crowned. With a Bills loss next weekend (although not incredibly likely, given that they are playing the Dolphins), the Pats will clinch the AFC East with a win over the Bills in week 11.

Ben said:

to the misinformed fan...Belichick was not the coach of the Browns teams that lost to the Broncos....he was still the defensive coordinator of the Giants then and Schottenheimer was the coach of the Browns....

I think moving games like this is a stupid move. One of the major complaints during the world series was how late the games were on and that it interferred with Sox fans being able to watch. Now the NFL takes a 1pm game, and moves it to 8:15. I like it when the game is in the afternoon and I can watch it and still do other things in the evening. What I now question is, will the NFL start moving ALL Pats games to prime time until they either win 16 or finally lose 1? That doesn't bode well for Pats fans trying to make plans. The NFL really needs to retjhink it's policies.

go Bills- Hopefully it is a blizzard here since the patriots lack a running game. Best luck to both teams

Jeff - Buffalo said:

I smell an upset here. The Pats will not go 16-0. They will go 15-1 and their one and only loss will come from the Bills.

Bikerdude said:

I think that the biggest problem with moving the time of the game is that it will throw the Patriots (and the Bills) off their regular schedule for doing things. The Patriots will get home later, be more tired, and have less time to prepare for their next victim, 'er game, I mean. It is only being done for the benefit of CBS and their ratings. I really do feel bad you you guys that are going to the game and have to deal with this issue. Best of luck to you all and the Patriots!

Over here on the East Coast we are being deprived of the right to watch our own team. Why? They call it Prime-Time, well it's not Prime Time for us, and it's OUR team.

Scott said:

The rescheduling of the Patriots games is unfair. And it's made even worse by the fact that Red Sox had to put up with the so called PrimeTime games in the world series already. Those of us on the east coast need to voice our discontent loud and clear so that there's not a repeat next year, since it is likely that we will also be the best team then.
