49ers' pick

By Mike Reiss, Globe Staff December 3, 07 06:44 PM

Much has been discussed about the Patriots owning the 49ers' 2008 first-round draft choice, and the San Francisco Chronicle touches on the Patriots striking gold with that pick.

Writes Nancy Gay:

"Hmm, let's see: Whom to pick in April's NFL draft, LSU's Glenn Dorsey? USC's Sedrick Ellis? Virginia's Chris Long? What an embarrassment of riches.

If you're the New England Patriots."

  1. I think we all agree that BB doesn't think that first round guaranteed contracts are a sensible way to go and that he will trade the pick down.

  1. It sort of depends on how much depth they think the draft will have. If they score a top 5 pick then they can trade down and load up. Remember, if they decide to retain Samuel then they are not going to have top 5 money available. Secondly, their LBs are getting old and need upgrading and I could see them needing to grab another WR since Stallworth and maybe even Moss might be gone next year. I hope that they don't trade for a pick for the 2009 draft. Time to inject more athleticism into this D!
