Belichick on PB&J
FOXBOROUGH -- Patriots coach Bill Belichick held his Friday press conference (10:45 a.m.) and there was a light moment at the end when he was asked about an old YouTube video that has been making the rounds on the Internet.
The video has Belichick, in the early 1990s as coach of the Cleveland Browns, making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich as part of the team's television show. Belichick explained that one key to making the effective "BB PB&J" sandwich was putting peanut butter on both pieces of bread.
Belichick acknowledged today that the video recently found its way into his email inbox.
"We had some creative television there," Belichick said with a smile.
In another light moment today, Belichick was asked if he still uses the same method to make the PB&J.
"Game-time decision," Belichick cracked. "You decide that right when you're putting out the bread, the jelly and the peanut butter, how you want to layer it, how close you want to put it to the crust, slice it diagonally, right down the middle, quarters, halves, or make it a full sandwich. Those are all game-time decisions."
Check out the video here (you have to wait a little, it starts about 36 seconds into it):

This video is hilarious, but let's just say Belichick makes a better football coach than he does sandwich maker. If you try what he's advocating, sure the peanut butter sticks to the bread, but the two pieces slide all over the place because the jam doesn't adhere to itself and it makes it difficult to eat.
Don't show that video to the league . . . BB will get another $500K fine. Well deserved THIS TIME. Next up, BB shows us how he makes humble pie.
I love this guy.
Nice to see BB didn't get ahead of himself on the sandwich deal. He gameplanned for the PB&J and the PB&J only. Only after that did he start thinking about the Ham&Cheese. One sandwich at a time...
Love Belichick's reaction when the "chef" asks him what BBPB&J stands for. He never suffers fools gladly, even when discussing sandwiches. BB has come a long way as far as letting his humorous side come through.
It's just one sandwich at a time... one sandwich at a time.
Chef Bill does a great job. He uses Cinnamon Raisin Bread for more flavor. And chunky peanut butter which adheres to the bread AND the jelly well. The key is not to use too much jelly and to press down firmly so PB will stick to the J. You can also toast the CRB to taste. Choosy Mom's choose BBPB&J. And yes never get ahead of yourself. Always one sandwich at a time.
Any fool can see this is a clever ploy to trick his opponents into making sandwiches the wrong way which in turn will throw off their dietary preperation. Sheer genius!
do they have any videos of Mangina eating a whole pig on youtube? I think there's a distinct possibility that such a tape exists.
In the video it shows BB making dog bone and star cut outs of the BBPB&J sandwiches. Mike, I think you should do so investigative journalism and find out if he now makes flying Elvis cut outs of the PB&J. Or cut outs of his weekly opponents as a pregame snack ritual. Pat's Nation needs to know.
I can't wait for them to release a video of Mangini making a peanut butter and peanut butter sandwich.
Sure, it may not be as complex as the BBPB&J but the EMPB&PB is still genius, right? Right?
