Comments from Patriots coach Bill Belichick following the game
Opening comment
“That was a pretty good football game. The Ravens, as we thought all week, are tough. They do a great job. They played well tonight. Fortunately we were able to make a few more plays than our opponent. It’s the third time in four weeks that we’ve come from behind in the fourth quarter. You have to give our players credit for the way they played in the fourth quarter tonight. It wasn’t perfect. There are a lot of things we need to work on. I was proud of the way they played when it was on the line when we had to some plays made.”
On if he has any concerns with the defense
“There were a lot of things that we didn’t do as well as we needed to do as a football team. You name it, it was a problem. We gave up a couple of long returns. Defensively, there were times we didn’t play well. Offensively, there were times we didn’t play well. But when we did play well, it was in the fourth quarter when we needed to make those plays, and that was important. The coaching, playing, certainly needed a lot of improvement, there was no doubt about that.”
On how the Ravens got Willie McGahee going
“I don’t think it was any magic. They did a good job blocking, a good job running. They had a good scheme and challenged us in some of the off-tackle and cut-back areas. Some of them we played well, some of them we didn’t. McGahee ran hard, as he always says.”
On if the passing game needed to be adjusted because of the wind
“I don’t think it was that big of a factor. I think it was much more of a factor in the kicking game. It wasn’t as big of a factor in the kicking game as I thought it would be. It wasn’t like there was 80-yard punts and that kind of thing, or many touchbacks. I didn’t think it was that big of a factor in the passing game. I thought it was a factor, I’m not saying that, but I didn’t think it was over-riding. We talked about it before the game, if it was enough of a factor to take the wind if we had won the toss, but we didn’t think it was that strong.”
