Carey gets call

By Mike Reiss, Globe Staff December 29, 2007 12:20 PM

Mike Carey’s crew has been assigned to officiate tonight’s game between the Patriots and Giants. This marks the second time this season that Carey’s crew has officiated a Patriots game, as it also worked the team’s 48-27 road win over the Cowboys on Oct. 14.

In that game, the Patriots were called for five accepted penalties for 50 yards. The Cowboys had 12 accepted penalties for 98 yards.

According to this Dallas Morning News piece, Carey’s crew falls in the middle of the pack when it comes to calling penalties.

In 16 games this season, the Patriots have had 14 different refereeing crews. Only Jerome Boger and Carey had multiple Patriots games.

The breakdown:

Jets: Jeff Triplette
Chargers: Ed Hochuli
Bills: Scott Green
Bengals: Jerome Boger
Browns: Walt Coleman
Cowboys: Mike Carey
Dolphins: Pete Morelli
Redskins: Larry Nemmers
Colts: John Parry
Bills: Bill Carollo
Eagles: Gene Steratore
Ravens: Walt Anderson
Steelers: Terry McAulay
Jets: Jerome Boger
Dolphins: Ron Winter
Giants: Mike Carey
