EVANS SCORES THIRD TOUCHDOWN OF SEASON
Heath Evans scored his third rushing touchdown of the season and his second in as many weeks when he tied the game at 10 on a 1-yard run with 5:22 remaining in the first half. All three of Evans’s touchdowns this season have come on 1-yard runs. Evans also scored on 1-yard run against Philadelphia on Nov. 25 and plunged in from one yard out in the season opener against the New York Jets on Sept. 9. Prior to this season, Evans had not scored a rushing touchdown in his career. His only career touchdown prior to this season came on a 1-yard reception from Tom Brady on Oct. 8, 2006. Evans is a veteran of seven seasons with Seattle (2001-04), Miami (2005) and New England (2005-07).
MOSS PASSES 1,100-YARD MARK FOR THE SEASON
On a 6-yard catch in the second quarter, Randy Moss passed the 1,100-yard receiving mark for the season, becoming the fifth player in Patriots history to achieve the 1,100-yard receiving plateau. Following that catch, Moss had 1,101 yards on 72 catches in 2007. Moss joins Stanley Morgan (1,491 yards in 1986), Troy Brown (1,199 in 2001), Ben Coates (1,174 in 1994) and Terry Glenn (1,147 in 1999 and 1,132 in 1996). Moss has exceeded the 1,100-yard receiving mark for the seventh time in his 10 NFL seasons and has achieved the milestone for the first time since gaining a career-high 1,632 receiving yards in 2003 with Minnesota.
STALLWORTH HAULS IN 42-YARD PASS
Donte Stallworth hauled in a 42-yard pass from Tom Brady in the first quarter as part of the Patriots’ game-opening field goal drive. The play marked the ninth pass of 40 yards or more for the Patriots in 2007. The 40-plus yard reception was Stallworth’s second of the season, trailing his 69-yard catch at Dallas on Oct. 14 that stands as New England’s longest pass play of the year.
EVEN STEPHEN
Stephen Gostkowski nailed a 21-yard field goal to give the Patriots a 3-0 lead in the first quarter. That field goal raised his career point total to 200 points, making him the 19th player in team history to reach the milestone. The field goal raised Gostkowski’s mark to 13-for-15 on the season (86.7 percent). He has made 34 of his last 37 attempts (91.9 percent) dating back to Nov. 5, 2006. Since joining the Patriots as a fourth-round draft choice in 2006, Gostkowski has made 33-of-41 regular-season attempts (80.5 percent) and 8-of-8 playoff attempts (100.0 percent for a total of 41-of-49 (83.7 percent).
STARTING STRONG
New England scored on its opening possession for the 11th time in 12 games this season when Stephen Gostkowski hit a 21-yard field goal to give the Patriots a 3-0 lead. On their 12 game-opening possessions this season, the Patriots have scored eight touchdowns, three field goals and have punted once.
