Jets' view

By Mike Reiss, Globe Staff December 15, 2007 09:03 AM

Links from New York/New Jersey on the Jets' perspective entering Sunday's game against the Patriots:

  • The New York Daily News looks at how the weather could be the great equalizer, with one Jets player expressing excitement about the possible poor conditions. "If you look at [the weather], it could be more of a pound-it game," Jets safety Kerry Rhodes told the newspaper.

  • The New York Post talks to Jets players who relish in the chance to end the Patriots' perfect season. "For us to go up there and pull off the upset, it would be a silver lining to a pretty dark season around here," tight end Chris Baker said.

  • Will the Jets empty the playbook in their attempt to topple the Patriots? Newsday writes that it's unlikely the team will go that route.

  • While the Patriots have been attacking through the air in recent weeks, the Jets wouldn't be surprised to see a ground-based approach Sunday, the Newark Star-Ledger writes. After all, the Patriots had 37 carries for 134 yards in the season opener against the Jets. "They can play the game several different ways," Jets defensive coordinator Bob Sutton told the newspaper. "They've run the ball on us in the past. That's kind of been a strategy of theirs, so we certainly have to be ready for that."

  • The New York Times notes the large point spread in the game, and speaks to Jets players on their feelings of being such a large underdog. "They’re a powerhouse,” Bowens told the newspaper, “and it’s like nobody is giving us a shot at winning -- but us.”
