The NFL released its 2008 draft order today, and the Patriots will be picking seventh in the first round. The seventh overall pick comes via the San Francisco 49ers, who finished 5-11.
The Patriots acquired the pick a trade made during the 2007 draft. New England traded a first-round pick (28th overall) to the 49ers for a 2008 first-round pick and a 2007 fourth-round pick. The 49ers used the selection on OT Joe Staley.
The Patriots will not have their original first-round pick, which was taken away from them by the NFL for illegal videotaping procedures. The team will have an additional third-round pick, which will be between 3-6 in the round (determined by coin toss). That pick was acquired from the Raiders during last year's draft.
