I was told that the reason Shula backed away from the "asterisk" comment was that in 1972 it was rumored that he was cheating. Of course there were no video cams then but somehow he was warned about cheating. Anyone know anything more about this story and maybe shed a wee bit of light on it? It would put an interesting spin on the story - sort of like Romney's stance on illegal aliens all the while he has them painting his house, mowing the lawns and trimming the shrubs.

I don't know about cheating, but I do know that the Dolphins were forced to give up a first-round draft pick because they were tampering with Shula's contract before it had expired while he was with the Colts.

Shula is the biggest cheater in the history of the NFL. In 1982, Shula left the tarp off the Orange Bowl in a monsoon for days before the AFC Championship Game to slow down the Jets' speedy offense (Freeman McNeil, Wesley Walker, Lam Jones). Of course, the NFL didn't have the balls to fine Shula because he was the head of the competition committee and it was widely known that he would retaliate against officials who ran against his wishes. Shula is the mother of all NFL cheating.

The Pats peaked way too early, especially for an old team like they are. Indy is hitting it's stride at the right time, and has developed new weapons to compliment Marvin Harrison. The Pats may get their perfect regular season, they play Jerry's kids next week, and the Sisters of Charity Home for Blind Children the week after, before playing a mediocre Giant's team. But they are really looking like a team that won't make it to the Super Bowl. And besides, their fans are the worst, most ignorant fans in the NFL. Even worse than Jets fans.

lol the pats are good enough to wreck everyone. The Defense needs some work but they do show enough resilience to keep it going. Go Pats and stop saying Boston fans are the most ignorant. A bunch of people on the Boards do not equal the whole area of New England.

Ahhh Pats fan...remember another game played in 1982 at Scheaffer Stadium in blizzard where the home side never prevented the drunken parolee from clearing the path in the snow to kick the winning (and only points) that afternoon against the "cheating" Shula? That's a game where the NFL should have stepped-in and voided the Pats win...that WAS cheating in its purest form. Go on and enjoy your season....but Pats fans who live in glass houses should not be first to cast stones.

Ohh DAVID P go watch some hockey. That was totally legit at the time as it did not violate any NFL rules. The rules changed thereafter and players are now allowed to clear snow away using their feet. Get the facts straight my man.
