Welcome to snowy Gillette

By Mike Reiss, Globe Staff December 16, 2007 08:32 AM

FOXBOROUGH -- Welcome to Gillette Stadium, where the Patriots host the Jets today (1 p.m.). If the current weather conditions continue, this will be a game defined by how the teams deal with the elements.

It is snowing, and there are considerable wind gusts. The temperature is currently 28 degrees. The forecast indicates that the snow is expected to turn to rain shortly before kickoff.

The field is currently covered by a green tarp and four plows are now pushing snow off the tarp. Workers are also clearing off seats, which are blanketed with snow.

While driving into the stadium, one might have thought visibility would have been an issue, but that doesn't appear as if it will be a concern for the teams.

In terms of analysis, these conditions would seemingly favor the Jets. Because the Patriots have such a proficient passing game, the conditions are going to make it challenging to execute.

We'll be passing along updates throughout the day.

  1. Playing in the snow
    In driving wind and rain
see how much fun it is
on a blitzing game of plays
    to blow some jets away
    as Mancini just cries
don't tape my tears this way.
I used to play to with Bill
when it was a child's game
    But now on my own
    I can't seem to win.
    Hey!
    Jingle Jets
    Jingle jet
    wipe your tears and play
    It's only a game
    and you you must smile
For us to tape your grief.
    Hey!

  1. glad the tarp is on the field... by the time they remove the tarp it will be just rain, and the players will have grip... good luck getting the tarp up with all that ice on it... anyway, everything is going to be alright...
