The Patriots have placed reserve DL Mike Wright on injured reserve today, ending his season. Wright sustained a foot injury.
A third-year player, Wright has been the team's backup nose tackle behind Vince Wilfork. He has regularly been the fifth of five/six linemen active on game days, while also contributing on the kickoff return team.
His loss thins the depth on the defensive line, a group that is comprised of starters Wilfork (nose), Richard Seymour (end) and Ty Warren (end), top reserve Jarvis Green (end) and second-year player Le Kevin Smith (nose/end).
Smith, a 2006 sixth-round draft choice out of Nebraska, now gets bumped up the depth chart. This also likely explains why the team worked out veteran free-agent Rashad Moore on Wednesday, as Moore has experience playing nose tackle in the 3-4 scheme, having been with the Patriots in training camp.
