4 from Bill

Here are four nuggets from Bill Belichick's press conference that stood out today at Gillette Stadium:

  • 1) The difference between the Giants on Dec. 29 and now. In looking at the Giants' three playoff victories, Belichick felt that the number one area of improvement was on special teams. He called David Tyree one of the best special teams players in the league. "They’ve really done a good job there. I think they’ve pretty much had the edge in that phase of the game in all three of their playoff games," Belichick said.

  • 2) Preparations officially started this morning. Belichick hopes to have "a good chunk" of the game-plan installed by the time the team leaves for Arizona on Sunday. That way, the team can "just polish it up a little bit in Arizona." Belichick liked what he saw from players at their 8 a.m. meeting. "I think the players really had a good attitude this morning about coming in and getting on to business," he said. "We know we have a lot of work to do and we’re anxious to get started on the preparations."

  • 3) Tom Brady's toughness and cool demeanor in focus. While Belichick did not comment on Brady's ankle injury, he did answer a question about the quarterback's toughness. "I think Tom’s one of the toughest players on our team, mentally and physically," he said. "He works hard and he can be focused on his job regardless of what’s going on in all of the surroundings -- the crowd, the game, whatever stuff is flying around him. He’s very calm. He’s a great competitor, but he’s very calm."

  • 4) Does experience matter? Belichick was asked if he could measure what it means having players with Super Bowl experience. "I don’t think there’s anything wrong with experience. I don’t think that’s a negative, but I don’t think it really does anything, either," he said. "I think the team that plays the best is the team that’s going to win. We went into the 2001 Super Bowl in New Orleans with a lot less playoff experience than the Rams. It didn’t seem to make any difference in that game, so I don’t have any reason to think it would make any difference in any other game. ... You have to go out there and prove it."

    1. Last game between Giants & Patriots too much time given so Manning could throw the ball, put pressure on him & we will definitely bring home Super Bowl win No. 4. Defense, give him some pressure & everyone stick to the game plan. Good luck from your No. 1 Fan in Boston.
