Bill talks Chargers
Patriots coach Bill Belichick held a conference call with the media today (4:30 p.m.) and opened with the following statement:
“As I said last night, we’re privileged as a football team to be in the AFC Championship game. That was a tremendous win today by San Diego, in Indianapolis. They beat them twice this year, of course. They’re a good football team, strong in every phase of the game – offense, defense, special teams. They make a lot of big plays in all three areas of the game as we watched them through the season, as I know all of you have. They’re tough, they’re physical. Going out on the road and winning today in Indianapolis today shows what kind of mental toughness they have. We know we’re going to have to play our best game of the year.
“On the same note, we’re excited to play, and we’re excited to be in the game. It’s a privilege to be in it. Hopefully we’ll be able to go out there and do our best Sunday against the Chargers.”
Other bits from Belichick:

Greetings Pats fans, looking forward the the game this week! Don't be to overconfident, the Colts fans were beyond arrogant and look what happened! With that said I know the odds are way against us, but the game has to be played, right?I'll be in touch during the week! GO BOLTS!!!
The lighting with strike NE. Bye, Bye Pats!
@Battlehoss-- Not sure what effect overconfident/arrogant fans will have on the game, but rest assured that the Pats players do not overlook any opponent, especially one that knocked off the defending Super Bowl champs on the road.
I can't think about the Chargers yet...
... because I'm still laughing over Terrell Owens' "LEAVE TONY ALONE!" video.
Come on Charger fans, maybe this year you can try being a little classy?
Wow. Battlehoss' thoughts are intelligible, but MoonPoop... wow. Pats fans could be forgiven for being overconfident.... their team hasn't lost a game all season, something which can hardly be said for the Chargers, can it?
Maybe it will be a closer game than in week two (remember that one, MP?), presuming that Phillips and LT are able to play (and that it matters). But braggadocio isn't becoming of Charger fans at the moment, their big W today notwithstanding.
If Rivers can't go, I wonder what topics he'll be discussing with the Pats fans in the stadiums? I don't get it, why does Rivers run his mouth like that? He's not that bad of a QB, but he needs to knock that off. I'm looking forward to a great day of football on Sunday.
Mike, according to "mapquest.com" the Chargers will have to travel to 7,200 miles (rounded) between their round-trip to Indy and one-way to Foxboro. How much (if any) difference do you feel this amount of travel will have on them given it's a short week ?
Bill Belichick (the unclassy guy according to Ladanian along with many other LT rants..the epitome of class) will not and has not allowed any over confidence on the Patriot team all year..Beleve me, all the yapping will come from the Chargers prior to the game..The Patriots will be focused on the Chargers as a team, not the amount of woofing they do..Go Patriots.
People have been underestimating the Bolts all year long... As a commited Charger fan I even watched the fans turn on them at 1 - 3, but it doesn't seem to register for most people that we are an extremely dynamic team. Reading people ranting how neither Manning wasn't on his game, nor the Colts defense... funny thing there is they said the same thing last time the Bolts beat them. Maybe the losses were caused by the tenacity that this defense has? (not "mistakes"). Manning was forced to make "mistakes". and the defense... well defending against a 6'5 reciever, three fly's up appearantly works.
I guess it doesn't really matter what I say, people will believe what they want, and I actually like being the underdog. Everyone keeps trying to keep us backed in a corner, but like a badger we just bite back.
