Brady, his foot & WEEI

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff January 21, 2008 10:00 PM

The New York Post published a picture today in which Patriots QB Tom Brady looked to be wearing a boot/protective brace over his right foot.

Earlier in the day, during his weekly appearance on sports radio WEEI, Brady was asked if he had sustained a leg injury.

"There are always kind of bumps and bruises," Brady told the Dennis & Callahan Show. "I'll be ready for the Super Bowl. I'm not missing this one. I'd have to be on a stretcher to miss this one. There will just be some treatment this week and like I said, games like this you get a little nicked up but it's nothing serious."

  1. The fact that he is walking (i.e. not on crutches) and carrying his own bag and flowers is the first indication that this isn't serious. He'll be fine by next week for practice. I'm sure this is a lot less serious than the knee injury he took in the '01 AFC Championship game in Pittsburgh.

  1. wouldn't it be amazing if news broke out after we won the Super Bowl (touch wood) that Brady has been playing with injury for 10 weeks and yet still being able to break all kinds of records and win all these games???
That would separate Brady a faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar cry from Manning.

  1. Does he actually go to the station or call in his comments? They would have noticed a cast. Maybe he slipped on ice after the game. Is he carrying a bridal bouquet? Is GI trying out ideas?

  1. So little class that your qb needs to visit his girlfriend in NYC! You won't know what hit you by they time the game & your lucky streak is over. What a shame to blow a perfect regular season!

  1. We must be positive. More media hype. I saw the video and I'm disgusted how his privacy is invaded. Brady deserves to be treated better than this.

I am a huge Pats fan and my first guy reaction is that he'll be fine in two weeks.

  1. He looks to be moving ok in the TMZ video. Does not seem to be anything to worry about.

  1. It s not necessarily true that it is not serious. It could be a stress fracture. .. The affected area is inflammed and is painful.. Believe me, I am a huge Pats fan and hope he plays at close to 100 percent, but common sense tells me he won't be 100 %

  1. I agree this isn't great news. But if you watch the video he's walking on his own and even handles the stairs without issue. In 2 weeks hopefully he'll be good enough to get the job done.

  1. NYPost... figures.

The Giants 15 minutes of fame will be over soon.
Peyton's sister won't be able handle the pressure.

  1. What is classless about a paparazzi photographer taking a picture of the STARTING QB OF A TEAM THAT NOT ONLY IS 18-0, BUT PLAYING THE MOST POPULAR FOOTBALL TEAM IN NEW YORK IN THE SUPER BOWL IN TWO WEEKS? Not to mention the fact that there is a possibility that he might be hiding an injury before the Super Bowl. Not only does he have those distinctions, but he is dating a model who happens to live in Manhattan. If that is not newsworthy, I don't know what is. The Post can be a classless rag at times, but Tom Brady with a protective boot on is news.

  1. Anyone see the TMZ video. I can't believe whack jobs like those can sell videos. I mean seriously the man is getting out of a car to go into his girlfriends apartment. Why do atleast two paparazzi need to be there to shoot it? And to the cameraman, I highly doubt Tom Brady is your "Bro".

  1. OK, you got me, Mike. How do you stretch this topic to classless NY fans? Do you think someone tripped Tom up in the street in NY? Sure hope Tom can plant that foot on February 3rd!!! Yikes!!!

  1. He'll be fine I am sure. Plus i think we proved we can win even if brady doesn't have the best game of his life.

  1. Boots are worn sometimes to protect against the aggravation of bruises. This is a major distinction from a sprain, or worse. Walking in one will create the appearance of "favoring" one leg over the other due to the structure of the boot. I'm with Greg; I'd like to see the play during which the injury was incurred, but it is difficult to generate much concern given the overall picture.

  1. The Patriots are already far and away the best team of all time. No team ever won 15 in a row, 16 in a row, 17 in a row, or 18 in a row. They already beat the Giants - on the road. The Giants will finish with at least 6 losses, perhaps a record if they should win the Super Bowl. The Patriots will still be #1 in the Power Poll even if they lose. I'm not saying that would ok with me, but the Giants will have ZERO claim to be the best team of 2007.

  1. No crutches = no worries. Remember, Brady started the SB in Feb 2002 even though Drew Bledsoe (4359 yards the next season) was available and won the AFC Championship when Brady hurt his ankle.

  1. No worries Patriots fans! Brady will be fine on Superbowl Sunday. If Rivers can play with a partially torn ACL you can bet the farm that Brady will play - and play well - with his sore Achilles heal (or whatever the problem is).

    Let's go Patriots!!

    Patriots: 31
    Giants: 24

  1. If he's also blindfolded and tied up, the Giants might have a shot. Otherwise, don't bore us.

  1. It's probably just a scam by Belichick, who's always got some BS on the injury report. Of course, Brady is probably happy it's the paparazzi chasing him around NY and not Strahan. He'll be fine in 2 weeks, but if he plays like he did Sunday, the Giants will win. He had to be perfect and have some help from the refs to beat the Giants the first time, and this time the Giants are on the road, where they play better...
