Chargers up next

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff January 13, 2008 04:18 PM

The Patriots' foe in the AFC Championship game was determined today. It will be the San Diego Chargers.

In a stunner, the Chargers beat the Colts, 28-24, at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis.

The AFC Championship game will be held Sunday, Jan. 20 at 3 p.m.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick will be holding a conference call shortly. We'll plan on passing along details after the call.

  1. Did I hear booing for the little girl representing the Patriots in the young peoples passing/punt competition? What are Colt's fans booing twelve year olds now? Glad not to be seeing them anytime soon.

  1. OK. How do we feel? Relieved that it's not the Colts? Will Rivers and L.T. be back and healthy next week? I'll say that I feel better knowing that smug publicity hound, me first QB, will be watching!!! Yeah!!!

  1. Glad to see the Colts lose with two observations from the game:
    1. It's amazing how much the referees protect the Colts receivers - some of the pass interference calls that go their way are unbelievable.
    2. Colts fans love to call us classless, but did you hear them boo the 14 yr. old girl at the start of the 4th quarter who was being recognized for winning the Punt, Pass and Kick competition and was wearing a Pats jersey?

  1. it feels like when the lakers got beat and the celtics played the rockets for the championship. winning won't be the same without beating the colts, but I like the matchup against the Chargers much better.

I guess the Colts' NFL #1 ranked defense wasn't all it was hyped to be. Billy Volek. . . are you kidding me?

  1. Stay Classy San Diego. Oh that never gets old. Rivers yelling at fans after a win? Hopefully Gillette will be loud.

  1. SD overcame a lot to win this game - injuries, noise, the refs, etc. Let's give a little respect to Norv Turner, who had his team ready and made some good moves during the game.

  1. now that the Colts aren't in it anymore, hopefully the refs will be alot less biased. there were plenty of calls on the chargers that made no sense, just like the crazy calls on the Pats last night.

  1. so many things to comment on, almost all of them have been mentioned... I got a HUGE kick out of the booing of the 12/14 year old girl. ONE, because it seemed kind of pathetic. TWO because it shows how salient this rivalry is.
... Big props to Norv Turner, as much as I dog on him, he's done a good job with that team, regardless of the talent on the roster
... I kinda wanted Indy back in Foxboro again, but getting SD after last year's game and all the $h1t they talked has got me excited. It's a rivalry that nobody talks about; the Chargers over the last 5 or 6 years have won some games in Foxboro, and lost some close ones. I'm excited about it!

  1. SD did a nice job on offense until their last drive. They started at 2:01 and ran a dive into the line instead of trying a pass. An incomplete would not hurt since the clock would already stop with the 2min warning. They ran three straight dives into the line and punted giving Peyton back the ball with 1:45 left and still one timeout. Very nice punt by the way. Fortunately the Colts offense was not clicking and the Bolts defense was good enough. I hate it when a team plays not-to-lose instead of playing to win. They were very fortunate given the poor gamesmenship.

  1. Chargers are tough. They gave us a freebie last year's game, but this time I fear it'll be different. I fear Brady will get run over and be on his back most of the game next week.

  1. Hey Patsies,
Nice try. Your a troll and what makes you think that Brady will be on his back at all when your team couldn't even get to Mr. Happy Feet. With Merriman a year removed from the juice, he's just a shell of the player he was. Yeah he might have had a good play or two this week but he's definitly not the sack machine he was last year. And your team is beat crap so have fun crying next sunday afternoon.

  1. larry, let's not even go there. If we want to go there (cheating) Bill Bellichik is only a few games removed of cheating, not even Spygate can stop these Chargers. Redemption will be beating the Patsies at home and ruining their perfect season. Keep doubting larry, keep doubting. Just ask Peyton how that went for him today!
    GO BOLTS!!!

  1. Nothing to worry about now. Not like I was worried. But Indy was looking past the Sandiego chargers that is why Brady is simply the Best ever he wont look past the chargers. He wants ultimate power. He is in uncharted territory. With that victory against Jacksonvile the mark is now 17 in a row tying the 1972 Dolphins. That is a target that Manning will never reach.

This is now becoming a reality. A sureal acomplishment that has captured the nations imagination. The story behind each version of the Dynasty is the most startling event over such a period. It is the redefing of greatness.

A super inteligent Quaterback, a technical mastermind ,the most feared reciever in history, a runningback hitting his stride. The ENDGAME nears..

    Where will you be.

  1. Was it just me or did someone else think it strange that Rivers and LT were on the sidelines giggling like schoolgirls while the biggest game of the year was going on?

  1. Good morning Boston, the Chargers are now celebrating the win over the Colts but, that was yesterday and today is Monday and the preparation for the Patriots has started and we are facing an unbeated team and the Chargers will be ready for the AFC Championship. The past is that. Sunday is a new day and may the better team that day win. Oh, yes i agree that the little girl being booed was with bad taste but, we took care of them. GO CHARGERS! Tesla from sunny Oceanside San Diego.

  1. Chuck, the only reason you play the cheating card is because it's the only one that you have.Face it your Colts bit the big one before they even got there and now you want to throw daggers? Why not throw one at your own pathetic team?Tony D will probably be gone after this year and then what will you do? He knew it 1/2 way through this season and thats what caused the colts demise.LOL
Pats all the way to 19-0!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. Nice chuck I like getting called out. Lets reason together if your capable of doing so. BB was fined for a rules violation and I never mentioned cheating now did I? Go back to school learn how to read and interpret what it is you are reading and come back and comment again. Now moving on my comment was in regards to Patsies about the chargers pass rush and I pointed out that merriman is nothing compared to how he was last year while juiced. That my friend is a fact. The proof is in the results. Now if you want to talk about videos the proof once again is in the results with or without a camera the Pats have been and will continue to be the most dominant team of the decade if not all time. So continue hating, continue trying to insinuate things that are simply not correct. You can rationalize anything you want but either way you still lose.

  1. Note to chuck and Patsies:

Why don't blog on your favorite team's (i.e. Bolts) websites? You're wasting your time talking trash to Patriots fans here, and putting down the Patriots' accomplishments this season.
Do us a favor, and don't come back here!
