Five All-Pro selections

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff January 9, 2008 02:24 PM

The Associated Press named its All-Pro team and the Patriots had five players selected -- QB Tom Brady, WR Randy Moss, LT Matt Light, OLB Mike Vrabel and CB Asante Samuel.

Moss was a unanimous selection. Brady was on every ballot, although one voter gave him a half vote, while also giving Packers QB Brett Favre a half vote.

The full team, and second team, is listed on NFL.com.

  1. Am I the only one who think Matt Light is overrated??
He got beat by Dwight Freeney like 5 times in the Colts game, and also Jason Taylor. Seems like he couldn't handle speedy DE off the edge.
I would rather see Logan Mankins in the All-Pro.

  1. Am I the only one that finds it amazing that Matt Light continues to receive individual awards. Granted Light has been a solid player over the years but IMHO Light is not now nor has he ever been one of the best OTs in the NFL. I could understand if both Light and Mankins were honored. Back in the day Brian Holloway went to the Pro Bowl for no other reason than the fact that he had the good fortune to stand beside John Hannah every Sunday. (Who was it that said about Holloway, "He always talked better than he blocked"? Will McDonough?) Not comparing Mankins to Hannah but if one lineman on the Pats stands out it's Mankins not Light.

  1. Hey Mike, nfl.com has the second team listed. Pats have 4 on it: Welker, Wilfork, Koppen, & Mankins.

  1. Easy on the critique of Matt Light guys - he's very good and he's rightfully earned his place on the all-star team. If you think he's overrated then perhaps you need to reassess your own knowledge of football. I think Mankins deserved the honor too - he's a beast.

cromartie shouldnt have been chosen. interceptions arent always an accurate measure of cornerback play

  1. Look at the Pats' rushing D's performance against the two All-Pro RBs, LT and Westbrook. San Diego was 20-52 (2.6), and Philly was 19-55 (2.9). These were the Patriots two lowest avg rush allowed of the season. Funny thing about that. Why have I not seen anyone mention this stat in analyzing the matchup between the Jags' running game and the Pats' D? Do people seriously think the Pats won't game plan effectively to counter it?

  1. I am getting a little sick of all these honors piling on the Pats. Look how the Bobcats humiliated the Celtics tonight. Saturday is looking spooky to me. Hope I am wrong.
