Flu-like symptoms for Light

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff January 17, 2008 04:12 PM

LT Matt Light did not practice today due to flu-like symptoms. He is a new addition to the team's participation/injury report:

Did Not Participate in Practice
S Mel Mitchell (biceps)
LT Matt Light (flu)

Limited Participation in Practice
WB Tom Brady (right shoulder)
G Stephen Neal (shoulder)

WR Donte' Stallworth, who was limited in practice on Wednesday, is no longer on the report. OL Ryan O'Callaghan (flu), who did not practice Wednesday, is also no longer on the report. One final note: Mel Mitchell's injury is now biceps. It was arm on Wednesday.

  1. I'm just going to say it. It should be Patriots team policy for players to get flu shots!!

I think I'm going to implode if somehow the Pats lose the AFC Chamionship a second year in a row, with rumors of players being at less than 100% because of the flu.

Not that it would be their fault. It would just be heartbreaking

  1. Flu shots protect from certain strains of flu, so just because you get a shot doesn't mean that you won't get sick....

  1. "flu-like.." Could be a norovirus infection.

These are the infamous cruise ship afflictions where everyone becomes sick in a matter of days, with symptoms of gastric distress characterized by vomiting. It is also a illness that appears quickly and is gone as quickly. The virus influenza takes days to incubate a weeks to leave.

Only good thing - norovirus infections are not especially incapacitating. Remember Jordan in the play-offs and dropping 50+ between IV's and vomiting. Influenza will incapacitate you as it effects the respiratory system harder than any other part.

  1. Also, flu shots contain a cocktail of strange ingredients besides dead flu viruses, and sometimes you never know what might trigger a positive drug test.

Plus, if Light and O'Callaghan would just stop swapping spit, they'd be fine.

  1. Jeez, last year the flu cost us the game against Indy last year. You'd think that Flu shots would be mandatory. It would be a real shame if anyone missed this game beacuse of the flu.

  1. To be fair a lot of people get sick from flu shots, not to mention, there are people who are allergic to them-- I have to get them every year and I am one of the few that do not get sick....just something to think about
