Putting a wrap on today's media access at Gillette Stadium with four items that stand out:
1) Welker's blocking. When Laurence Maroney scored on a 6-yard run in the third quarter of Saturday's win over the Giants, he picked up a key block from receiver Wes Welker. Patriots coach Bill Belichick noted that aspect of Welker's game, saying "he's had some big blocks all year - the Washington game, some of our wide receiver screens, things like that. ... He’s not a big kid, but he’s physical and he’s tough."
2) Seau happy for another chance. Linebacker Junior Seau touched on how thankful he is to have a chance to pursue his first Super Bowl championship. After breaking his arm last November, Seau wasn't sure if he'd have another chance to chase a title after 17 NFL seasons. So he's especially appreciative of his present situation but added that it only means something if the team wins it all.
3) Belichick and the 2x4. Cornerback Ellis Hobbs passed along something that coach Bill Belichick told the team today, as it relates to the pressure of entering the playoffs following a 16-0 regular season. Hobbs said Belichick told the team that the pressure was there only if the players allow it to be. The example he used was putting a 2x4 on the ground and walking across it. That's easy, Belichick told the players. Put that same 2x4 in a different spot -- such as in the air -- and it should be just as simple walking across it. But if you let the pressure of being in the air affect you, it could be more difficult. According to Hobbs, Belichick's point was that even though the stakes are raised, the football is the same, and the Patriots simply needed to focus on playing to the level they are capable.
4) Seymour on the benefit of the season finale. Defensive lineman Richard Seymour feels the Patriots can benefit from playing in a season finale that included high drama. "I thought it was really good to have that Giants game because it was definitely a playoff atmosphere and it was definitely good for this team," he said. "It’s good for the young guys to see the type of intensity, see the environment that we’re going to be up against week-in and week-out. I thought it was a good game for us just from that standpoint."
and if you put the 2 X 4 on water there is no problem since the Patriots already can walk on water
What is 2X4?
