Inactive analysis

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff January 20, 2008 01:52 PM

Analysis from the Patriots' inactive players today:

  • With WR Chad Jackson not suiting up, look for CB Ellis Hobbs to return to his duties as a kickoff returner. Jackson returned kicks last week. Also, with WR Troy Brown inactive, the Patriots have just five receivers dressed -- Randy Moss, Wes Welker, Donte' Stallworth, Jabar Gaffney and Kelley Washington.

  • With S Mel Mitchell and CB Antwain Spann inactive, the Patriots have some holes on special teams. S Ray Ventrone is one candidate to possibly fill in.

  • With OLs Wesley Britt and Billy Yates not dressing, the Patriots have their top seven linemen ready to go. That means RG Stephen Neal is set for his second straight start, with C/G Russ Hochstein the top interior backup and Ryan O'Callaghan the top backup tackle.

  • With DL Le Kevin Smith inactive, the Patriots have chosen to go with veteran nose tackle Rashad Moore as the fifth of five defensive linemen. Moore was inactive last week in favor of Smith.

    1. Mike,

I am watching the pre-game report right now and I see Rivers limping around pretty bad. The first thing that comes to mind is that he is exaggerating his injury. Your thoughts?
