Jaguars chatter

FOXBOROUGH -- Comments from the Jaguars' locker room after Saturday night's game:

Head coach Jack Del Rio
"As I just told our football team, we came in here… I feel like the energy, the effort, the plan that we put together was good and sound. We went toe to toe for a while with these guys. They’re obviously a very good football team. We didn’t quite get enough done today, so they advance, we don’t. You know you can’t lose the turnover battle and expect to win a game like this. We were down two in that category and that was a little bit of a problem. We knew every time we got in the red zone, we knew we had to score touchdowns and in the second half they held us to two field goals. All in all, some good energy put out. I was proud of the effort and all that. [It was] just not quite good enough to advance against a team of their caliber, so they move on, we go home."

(on a couple of plays deciding the outcome)
"I think you got it right. We had a shot there and we end up having to settle for a field goal, then they go down and get another score. [Tom] Brady was very, very good today. I mean, he’s been great all year but he was patient. We made him be patient. We didn’t give him a lot of things over the top. He was very patient, willing to take the short stuff [and] nibble a little bit. [They’re a] good football team. They did a nice job."

QB David Garrard
"It was a valiant effort by this whole team. I think all year long these guys played fabulous. I was very proud to play with these guys. Tonight was another night, another good example of that. Everybody played with their hearts. Everybody left nothing in the tank. They poured it all out. We had two turnovers, which were two too many. Whenever you lose the turnover battle it makes it hard on your team, especially against a team like that with the kind of offense that they have. Also, when we got into the red zone we made it tough on ourselves a couple of times where we didn’t score touchdowns. We wanted to make sure we made an emphasis all week long to get six or seven points just so we could stay up with them, because we knew there were going to be themselves, the Patriots. They score points. I just thought this team really played about as hard as you can play. My hat goes off to this team and also to the Patriots team."

DE Reggie Haywood
(on the Patriots' offensive approach with Tom Brady taking check-downs)
"You have to give him credit, because that is just intelligent. If you look at the defense and you see Cover Two and we’re doubling Randy Moss all the time, you have to take what we give you. Tom definitely did that but you have to give the wide receivers credit too, because they broke tackles and made yards after contact and just made some big plays and that really hurt us."

CB Brian Williams
(on covering Randy Moss)
"I think it had a lot to do with me covering him. We were together in Minnesota for three years and we definitely had our battles over the years. The coach told me I had him and I was looking forward to it. We were doubling him and running cover two to take him (Randy Moss) out of the game and they just went to other options."

  1. This Pats team is like no other as far as depth, quality depth, at Wide Receiver, and the comments here, by the Jags, just show how, next to impossible, it is for any team to stop, or even slow down, the Pats wide receivers. Throw Ben Watson, a TE with WR capabilities, and it is going to be a long night for any defensive secondary. And, we didn't see much of Jabar Gaffney, either, and if any of the others go down, there is a Kelley Washington also. This has to be one of the best and deepest corps of wide receivers , ever, in the NFL. Hopefully, Chad Jackson will make it even deeper next season.

  1. great to see some respectful comments from a defeated team for a change.

Shows they have class & simply acknowledge that the best team won - instead of whining & pouting like the Chargers will be doing next Monday.

Give the Jags a lot of credit all around - they are definately going to be a major contender next year & I won't be surprised if they make it to the Championship game.

Much like BB bringing out the best of his players & keeping them hungry - Del Rio has proven he can do so, as well
