Light on ESPN radio

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff January 25, 2008 05:58 PM

Left tackle Matt Light was a guest on “The Mike Felger Show” on 890 ESPN in Boston today and was asked about comments made by Giants DE Osi Umenyiora.

The Q&A:

What did you say to Umenyiora?
“I’ll tell you what, that’s another area that I don’t really comment on and I haven’t obviously this week. But I will tell you that everybody that has ever played against me – going back to my college years and probably even high school, I can’t even remember that far back, I’m getting too old now – the only thing I can say with certainty is that I’ve never, ever, ever spoken a word to anybody I’ve ever played against. I’m not bragging about that. That’s just the way it is. That’s just the way I play the game. I’m actually sucking wind so heavily that I couldn’t get a word out if I had to. So what I think happened is that maybe he is referring to the style of play, because I did actually get to see the interview, only because I had so many people comment that I had to watch it. I don’t think he said anything earth shattering. I don’t think he was trying to say that I did something one way or the other. I think the bottom line from that conversation was that we had a very physical game, we both got after it and went to the whistle and then some, and that’s the kind of game it was. Other than that, I think it was a typical conversation to have with the guy. ... I think what he meant was that we had a pretty good matchup, we had a lot of fun out there; I just think it came out wrong."
