Pats scout to be Falcons GM

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff January 12, 2008 04:30 PM

Patriots director of college scouting Thomas Dimitroff has reached agreement with the Atlanta Falcons to become their general manager.

The news was first reported by ESPN's Chris Mortensen and the NFL Network's Adam Schefter today.

The Falcons' potential interest in Dimitroff was touched upon in the Boston Globe on Jan. 3.

The 2007 season was Dimitroff's sixth with the Patriots. He reported directly to vice president of player personnel Scott Pioli.

Dimitroff's primary job was to oversee a staff of area scouts responsible for evaluating all of the nation's eligible college prospects. He also scouted players himself and is widely considered a top evaluator.
