FOXBOROUGH -- The Patriots are holding their afternoon practice inside the Dana-Farber Field House. The team is in full pads.

The Globe's Christopher L. Gasper passes along word that the following players were not present for the media-access portion of practice: CB Asante Samuel, CB Ellis Hobbs, RB Kyle Eckel, RT Nick Kaczur and TE Kyle Brady.

DE Ty Warren, who was not present yesterday, was back on the practice field today.

The media-access portion of practice included stretching and some individual drills.

  1. What's the deal with Asante and Ellis?? I know Gay replaced Hobbs in the regular D 2x vs Giants but I didn't think he was hurt. Are they digned up or sick like Eckel??

  1. Should we be concerned that Samuel and Hobbs are both out of practice?

  1. Jonathan, I would only be concerned if Samuel was out of practice, not Hobbs. No amount of practice could help the weakest link on the Pats defense.

For a corner, his history is pitiful. He gets beaten more often than not, on deep routes, gives up far too much space and constantly is behind the play on slants and quick in routes, and over three years he has, virtually, no passes defended and, I believe, just one interception. (dont hold me to that one) And, that interception was only because his cover was inside of him, Hobbs was 8 yards off of the receiver, and the ball by Manning was badly over thrown.

Hobbs is a nice, gutsy player, but on the corner, he hurts the team more than he helps. He would be bettyer utilized as an inside nickel back where he can see the play in front of him, and react.
