Report: McDaniels to stay
ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports that Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels will not interview for head coaching positions with the Atlanta Falcons and Baltimore Ravens.
Both the Falcons and Ravens requested permission to speak with McDaniels, but Pasquarelli reports that the 31-year-old McDaniels has decided he won't interview for any vacancies this year.

Smart move, both the Falcons and Ravens are horrible teams with a dim future without a franchise QB in sight.
There won't be any Round 6 Brady types in this year's draft, McDan is clearly better off waiting for a much better franchise to call his name.
Kudo's to Josh McDaniels for staying with the Pats! Though success doesn't come without cost, the last thing the Pats needed was to have their coaching staff raided by other teams or undergo another defection from their ranks ala, Eric Mangini!
Smart move
Very Glad Josh Mcdaniels is staying w/ the Patriots It shows he has Class and Morals
thank you Josh for showing you have Good taste
Adam Schefter reporting on the NFL Network that Josh turned down the Ravens and Falcons. He told them he is not interested in becoming a Head Coach right now.
There will be plenty of opportunities for him. He could still use a couple of years of polish, and he knows it. He gets to see Belichick; the best coach in the business, go to work everyday. He'll know when he's ready and he'll probably be able to snag a more coveted position.
I don't know if it was a smart move for sure. Remember that when Belichick started in New England, the team was in shambles and needed to be re-done. He is smart to gain more experience before heading off to lead a team where many of the players would be older than he is. Also, both of the teams interested would not be as bad as going to the Jets in the same division like Mangini.
Finally, I've been a Tom Brady fan since he was playing at Michigan. I didn't even think he would be anything more than a backup. I was shocked he made the team in the first place. My hopes were on Michael Bishop like everyone else.
I would recommend Josh stay as close to Tom Brady as he can. # 12 makes every one around him look very good. A couple more years under Bill Belichek couldn't hurt either.
Josh is just a kid. He needs at least 2 more years to take the reigns as a head coach. Good for you Josh. A man has to know his limitations. The time is not right for you to take a head coaching job. Learn from BB. In a couple of years you may be ready.
Who do you think a prime candidate would be to replace BB? That's why he's staying. When BB goes 19-0 there's not much left for him to do. I doubt he's focused on career coaching victories by a head coach. He will step down after perfection.
The horrible Ravens with their "non-franchise QB" pretty much moved the Ravens at will against the pats defense a few weeks ago and if werent for the help of some officials the pats would not be celebrating 16-0!
My hopes were on Mike Bishop ?
Are you crazy ?
That is a bad sign
HC - you know nothing of Belichick. Don't be stupid, read a book and you can see why he wouldn't stop coaching after going 19-0. Jon - you need to let go. The Raven's played over their heads (like every team the Patriots played this year) and still lost. Nothing is going to change it, even with Steeler and Colt type whining. Josh Daniels became a lot smarter when the Pats got Welker and Moss. To his credit he utilized them to their best abilities. Still he's trying to be an OC and I'm sure he realizes he's not ready to handle the HC responsibilities, unlike Mangini. Good call and the right call for Daniels and the organization.
I agree with the last 2 comments....josh will be a good canidate to fill in for the pats head coaching position after next season....and yes, the horrible ravens had us pats on the heals....if not for a few calls here or there...and the time out granted to (lucky for us), an assistant coach....which actually should not have been granted.....we would not be 16-0...but hey....still gotta win 3 more...or it's all for knot.
HC,
I highly doubt that McDaniels is going to hang around another 4 or 5 years as an OC just to wait for the Patriots HC job. Belichick did just sign a lengthy extension earlier this year, which wasnt outwardly reported but was intentionally leaked to the media. I still think Kraft has his eye on Charlie Weis to come back as coach when Belichick leaves. This would give time for Weis to stay at ND for a while and not look Petrinoesque and leave to the NFL, which is obviously what he really wants to do.
After watching Mangina get off to a horrible start in Greenland, Josh is wise to take his time and select a coaching job... have an NFL career by design, not based on whatever loser job is conveniently available at the moment. A year or two more of experience and McDaniels will be able to choose a decent job instead of taking one with burnout franchises on their way down.
It is likely Josh McDaniels will someday be a head coach in the NFL. When he does take a position -- unless it is to replace Bill Belichick -- it is unlikely he will inherit a Chargers or Cowboys situation. More likely will be a Miami or KC of SF case -- and I recommend against working for Big Tuna. In the meanwhile he needs to have more time under Belichick to learn planning and communications skills. His next QB will not be the driven type like Brady or Kevin Garnett. Having Brady means McDaniels has never had the kind of struggle most OC's have with their QB's, trying to get them to change what they are doing. McDaniels has had it too easy, so he needs more seasoning if he is to be successful in the top job. He also needs more experience in personnel operations.
Anyone surprised that the Tuna didn't come a knocking? This is where the Mangenius messed up. He was recruiting on the flight back no less. There is a standing agreement among that coaching tree, don't mess in my backyard and I don't mess in yours. The Mangenius thought he was above that.
PLEASE give it a rest jon...after watching the game film, even the Ravens shut-up!
Well I'm just glad that Josh is staying just like everyone else. I also feel he needs a couple more years of coaching under BB.
It's a good Idea to stick around here for awhile longer Josh. Learn EVERYTHING that you can from the greatest teacher/coach, but STILL be prepared to get your butt kicked when you go up against the master. . It's also nice to be on a winning team, before trying to do a rebuilding job. As the old Tower Of Power song goes ' Youre still a Young man' Just my 2 cents, oops inflation buck and a half.
The reason he is staying is because he is not as stupid as Mangini. The HC job was Mangini's when BB goes to the front office if he just stuck around. That is why BB was so pissed when he went to the Jets. McD will be the HC in a couple of years when BB hangs it up. Why buy a Yugo now when you can wait a bit and get the keys to a Ferrari.
The Ravens had Rolle and McAllister back for the Patriots, and they had already switched QBs. When they have their full defensive corps and a QB that can throw, they're a decent team. So other than the general lack of discipline leading to penalties, they're only a decent QB and healthy players away from contending again.
I agree that McD is staying because he is in line to become the Patriots head coach in a few years.
