'07: Most memorable game

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff February 16, 2008 09:19 AM

Continuing a mini-series that looks back on the 2007 season:

Today's question: Which game was most memorable?

Top candidates: Sept. 16 vs. Chargers; Oct. 14 at Dallas; Nov. 4 at Colts; Dec. 3 at Baltimore; Dec. 29 at Giants

Top choice: Dec. 29 vs. Giants

The reason: As cornerback Ellis Hobbs later explained, the season finale was a “mini-Super Bowl.” There were questions entering the game if the Giants would play all-out, and perhaps rest some players, but it soon became clear they were laying all their chips on the table. Giants Stadium was electric on one of the great nights in the history of the NFL, as the Patriots charged back from a 12-point second-half deficit to win and cap off their 16-0 regular season. The magnitude of the night made the Patriots-Giants game an easy choice, but not to be forgotten was the home-opener against the Chargers with the Patriots defending their pride in the wake of Spygate surfacing; the ESPN-named “Duel in Dallas” in Week 6; the fourth-quarter comeback in Indianapolis to improve to 9-0; and the improbable ending in Baltimore.

    1. The Pat fans in South Florida sure wish you wrote for a South Florida newspaper and still covered the Pats. There are enough of us here to justify your writing about the team. By the way, in your most memorable game blog, you refer to all the teams by their nicknames. All except the Ravens. How come?

    1. The Baltimore game. The other games were memorable, but the game against the Ravens was the only game where something was in the air. During the Patriots last drive it was like they were posessed or something, a incredibly surreal game.

    1. The Bills' game with 7 O-drives and 7 TD's in a row, while shutting out your opponent for most of the game. The most "perfect game" , using a baseball phrase, that I have ever seen. BD

    1. Baltimore, hands down. That game was electric. One of the most intense football games I have ever seen, and that last drive, coincidence of events, was unbelievable. Brady to Gaffney!

    1. Superbowl - is the most memorable. It will live with me for years. Even now I can still see 3 people on Manning on that 3rd and 5.

Only 37-1 can erase that memory - 37-1, now that has a nice ring about it.

    1. The super bowl because even though it is a bad memory, I still remember it, and I die a little inside each time.
