Amendola & Welker

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff February 23, 2008 11:15 AM

INDIANAPOLIS -- One leftover from Friday is the Wes Welker Impact.

Welker wasn't invited to the combine when he was coming out of Texas Tech prior to the 2004 draft. But his success in the NFL has perhaps changed the way teams view receivers, which was noted by Texas Tech's Danny Amendola.

"He’s kind of paved the way for the little slot receivers out there," the 5-foot-10, 185-pound Amendola told reporters. "Coming from the same school, that doesn’t hurt either."

Amendola has drawn comparisons to Welker.

"I’ve been told by my Tech coaches that we resemble each other a lot," he said. "He plays hard. I feel like I play hard. If the ball is running the other way, then we’re going to be over there. We’re going to go until the whistle blows."

  1. This player, Amendola dominated college football from the slot position in spread offences. A Welker prototype, no doubt
